  • Good evening frugalers. well today was my 1st back at uni after the christmas hols, I didn't want to get up when that alarm went of at 6am:eek:. They were giving out free microwave burger things on campus today, so I gave it to DS. I didn't have to to eat this morning so treated my self to chibatta with, chicken, chesse and jalapenos and a coffee, it was yummy but at a price £3.85:eek:.

Not sure who it was that mentioned this challenge getting a facebook page, but I think it is a fab idea.

My student loan/grant went in the bank today:j, I was going to tranfer some into my savings account but I read on another thread the other that my Hal!fax student current account has a better interest right now 2%, so what i'm going to do is pretend that I have transferd it and just keep a note on paper of what I would have left in there if I had of taken it out IYSWIM and live of that.

Mumzy- could you not get a rough idea of you have spent by getting a bank statement. I just take cash out the bank now for day to day running cost and add that to my 4k sig and only use my debit card for food shopping.

right i'm of to up date my sig and then one more brew and bed, I worn out after running round from class to class, and most of them are up 3 flights of stairs, and getting so early has been abit of a shock to the system:rotfl: .

    Big hugs for everyone.

    Shelley x

I'm back at uni now too, Shelley, feeling very lazy though and finding it hard to remind myself that essays do in fact have deadlines  hopefully I will get back into the swing of things soon! My loan's coming in tomorrow

Just wanted to comment re: keeping your loan in your student account - half the point of the student account (well the whole point!) is the big interest-free overdraft so if you are keeping it in credit then you are not making the most of that, since you could earn money by 'stoozing' it. Even though savings rates have dropped at the moment you can still get more than 2% (especially since I expect you don't pay tax?). Mine pay 4% and 4.5% respectively though I dare say they will drop again. Also if you are anything like me then you won't notice the gradual chipping away of a large figure in your account whereas since I only keep £100ish available in mine then I do notice having to move extra money across to cover larger purchases and so it stops me spending! Just a thought, I recognise you might just find this easier and not want the bother of opening a better-paying savings account.

    Night all xxx

To remember what you bought tear off the boxtop which has make colour and shade no and pop it into your bathroom cabinet. On the back-write where you bought it, the date, and the cost.
That would be too easy  (I'm blonde after all :rotfl: ). I did try this once, but forgot where I put the bit of card. I only dye my hair about 3-4 times a year as my roots don't really show too much, it's for for the lovely grey bit at the front. If I buy them on offer I get 2 or 3 and this saves the problem of remembering.

xnatalie Botany bay chorley Lancashire. Its a large shopping complex with a childrens play place. I think it used to be a mill.

purplevamp I was married in 1973 and I just about remember most of the sixties and vaguely remember some of the fifties

I am upthis early because I woke up at four and my mind was churning over a computer problem. I could not get on the internet and had not been able to sort it before I went to bed but I must have been working it out in my sleep and came down at four and did a few changes and reinstalled the virgin software and it worked:T .
Now I don't know if I should go to bed again or stay up as I have work at 9am. I think I will try and sleep. The alarm is set and now I have the internet part of the problem done I might be able to get the answer for the wireless bit:rotfl:

    Morning!

    Congrats to Pipsmum!:T:j

Budget is still going well, have spent £171.51 so far out of £19.08 x 12 days = £288.96, so keeping within target for month so far:)

Was hoping not to spend today but have just remembered that DD is starting PE on wednesday and will have to go out and buy her a first ever PE Kit! A trip to matalan will be on the cards this morning, while I am there I will probably take a look in Lidl which is right next door and see if there are any bargains to be had:)

I do expect to go over my grocery budget for this month and I am buying in a lot of supplies since climbing back on the OS wagon and cooking from scratch again after a few lazy months before the lead up to xmas... I was thinking that february would be a lot lower but now I am planning to stockpile, I think the first few months of 2009 will see me spend quite a lot and then tail off as the year goes on:T Hopefully I will see a big reduction by the end of the year if I compare it with grocery spends of 2008!:D

Off to finish lunchboxes now, will update any spends later...
