Woke up feeling more positive than ever today - not sure why but hey its better than how I was feeling at start of year.

If someone had told me 1st January that starting out on a DMP would help me sleep at night, held me get control of my life back and make me feel more positive about my debts that I could ever imagine (seeing as I am defaulting all the time and I have so far only paid them £1 each for 2 months and from now on will be no way near making even the miniumum payments) - Well if someone had told me - I would have laughed at them. But in hindsight they would have been the ones laughing at me - because it is true. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yes you go through the worry of am I doing the right thing, will creditors hassle me and is a DMP right for me - but once you sign on the dotted line with CCCS or similar, send them all your creditors details and set the standing order up to pay your first months DMP payment - you do feel a sense of achievement as you are not running away from your debts you are no longer robbing one to pay the other and you have money left to pay for the things you actually need, like heat, light, rent, rates and food.

Only 13 days to go (including today) and my first DMP payment will be made:beer: thanks to everyone on this sight for the invaluable info you have given to us all you are true friends :T

Loads and loads of luck being sent your way Donna :A :j :j :j

I find it hard with one or two but four - gosh I know I would never cope. You are an inspiration to us all. Let us know how you get on with your budget - and yep you are right you will have to keep checking your trolley for those items that magically appear :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am looking after my eldest niece today - she is still in the land of nod - hoping she sleeps in till about 11 (which isnt unusal for her in the school hols) that way I can get a few things done and at least get dressed before she gets up - yep you guessed it I am still in my pj's.

dlb - when we all had to go shopping, mum used to let us pick the biscuits - one pack each and we had to tell her the price before it went in the trolley ;)
I think it made us feel like we were getting a treat (although she would have bought biscuits anyway) and might possibly have cut down on the moans as we each felt like we'd got something different.

Not sure if that would help any? You could give them a price and let each of them pick some things like biscuits, cereal etc?

She used to give us the lightest bags to carry too - as she didn't drive it meant walking home.

Hi MNM- that first payment going out is a real milestone. I am now into my second year of DMP and I still get a a buzz out of watching the monthly reduction in debt through my monthly payment!

DLB- I agree that holidays can be really expensive when shopping with all the little helpers. i have infected DS with my newly learned frugal habits and he is now an expert at spotting a bargain [cant say the same for DD yet.....]

newly wed- like the ideas might try them out on DH !!!

Tuna - I haven't got an answer on that I'm afraid, but I strongly suggest you post your query on the "Ask a CCCS Counsellor a question" thread, you'll get an "official" reply and hopefully some help!

Or you could always phone the CAB ... or National Debtline? (freephone 0808 808 4000)
