  • Hi Jaapie

I was fully uptodate with all my creditors as of end of Dec - then I decided enough was enough trying to juggle paying them all so I went online with CCCS and did their debt remedy plan.

To get some money behind me before the plan kicked in I sent £1 payments to my creditors for january and intend to do the same for February and the money I would have normally paid them (if available) I have stashed away so that I have an emergency fund.

Please dont worry - we are all in the same boat no one will judge you.

Go online with CCCS (www.cccs.co.uk) and fill in their debt remedy plan and if it says that a DMP is suited to your needs give it a go its not half as scary as you think. When you get your paperwork from CCCS - decide on a suitable starting date for you. Ie if you send of for paperwork now - it may be best to start plan in April or May - and until then send your creditors token payments and tell them that you are talking to CCCS.

Good luck let us know how you get on

To Jaapie and others worrying about going on a DMP when they have'nt missed any payments yet I would agree with what others have said don't think that really matters, the point is you are acknowledging that it's going to become a problem and it's better to do something about it sooner rather than later.
Start sending token payments from now on and definately opt to start your DMP a couple of months down the line, that way you can stash any extra cash you would have used for payments and start to buid up an emergency fund.
That is one thing I really regret not doing, being in too much of a rush to get started and having no funds to fall back on.
Good luck everyone the scary bit is almost behind you, really.

Hey toffee penny don't beat yourself up too much about the smoking my DH has been on and off the waggon SO many times:rolleyes:
If you can do it once you can do it again.
Result on the charges refunds though, good on you for sticking at it:j

  • Hello everyone, hope you are all well :)

I didn't miss any payments before I had my Light Bulb Moment. I did what everyone else appears to be doing.. cancelled all my direct debits to creditors, and sent them a £1 Postal Order each with my CCCS Ref Number.. this gave me my DMP amount for 1 month to put in to the Emergency pot. Then the following month my DMP kicked in and they all got paid through CCCS. :T

I've been up and running on a joint DMP for more than a year now, the debt has gone down about 4k.. most Creditors have frozen interest after dragging their heels for a few months.. I still have 1 charging interest.. no matter how much I or CCCS request they freeze it they don't seem to listen but I'm sure they will give in eventually or they will have my debt for longer than I'm alive!! :A

I don't let it bother me so much anymore and can't believe how panicked and worried I was at the initial stage but I think its only natural.. Once you've been here a while and read and learnt about the tactics creditors use, other peoples stories etc I think you get stronger and more confident..

I don't get any phone calls.. get a nice letter every now and again (had a default come through the other day) but I'm not scared of opening my letters anymore. I don't have the luxurious lifestyle I had before, but I'm not doing bad at all, and i don't spend on Credit!!

Like everyone says, you cant pay them what you don't have. Learn from your past mistakes.. we all make them... enjoy the DMP, it has been my family's saviour!! and look forward to when you are debt free :T

Hi Worriedmart... Would you mind saying who the creditor is who wouldn't freeze the interest? I'm only asking as I wonder if its one of mine. No problem if you aren't happy to tell.

    Many thanks

  • Hi St0lli,

Of course, its Halifax.. Well, Intelligent Finance, who passed it on to Blair Olliver and Scott, their internal DCA, its all the same company.

Blair Olliver and Scott are supposed to be better than Halifax at freezing Interest, so I was overjoyed when they passed it over... but they are still charging.. not the full amount, a lowered %, think its around 2% offhand, compared to 7.9% Original.

Halifax are a bit of a nightmare tbh, if you search for them on this board most people have problems with them :)

I only had the loan for about 1 year out of its 7 year term before I started the DMP, so they are quite understandably not very happy.. all of my other debts started 2000-2004 so are a lot older and I have paid a fair bit off them before entering DMP which helps I guess.
