This is exactly why I struggle with realising how much I'm spending... because it's ALWAYS negative!!!

Plus, when you draw up a budget, and you realise straight off you can't afford to pay all your min payments, let alone food/petrol etc.. then of course there's no real incentive to stick to the budget... it's not like you can get to the end and go "yay, made it, 36p left!"

I can do that now :) I'll have PLUS numbers AND 36p left. (well, hopefully a little more than that, but the theory stays!)

Yep that was exactly it for me too!
I was checking my accounts earlier.. and admittedly my 'real' offers haven't started yet.. and! nor have most of my 'good' direct debits come out yet..

But SMILE said my net worth (between my main account.. the savings and the ISA)
was £530 .. and that's before I get paid (monthly) in the next few days.

even THAT is a miracle.. I haven't had money.. that wasn't credit or Overdraft.. for YEARS!

I know it wont stay that way.. hahah!.. but its a nice feeling for the moment.

I have noticed though.. how much I am learning to haaaate spending money.

SUCH a flip around.. ;) haha!

awww that can't be true!!! bless :D

I should be asleep.. work in the morning and all.. I don't like stopping and going to bed though. I think I should really have an afternoon/evening job, so I can stay up all night, sleep in the morning and get up later. I'd be much better at that.

haha yeah.. that would suit me too.
The thing is.. I love staying up late.. I'm a real night birdy. BUT!.. I love being up early before everyone else.. I don't like to think I am wasting time sleeping when I could be doing something else. :rotfl:

    Hmm counts me out then..
That great if thats the case tho :T

I love Barclays. .. they have always been GREAT to me. I hate to be leaving them really..

One day.. (after I pay them back the £2250 quid I owe them ;) .. I hope they will have me back.. :: sniffs ::

I know you're following it yourself, but did you get a ref number or anything when you applied? I thought I read somewhere that you could still say "following advice from... ref... I am doing my own DMP.." (obviously in more formal terms, I may be awake but my brain has gone a bit fuzzy!). Maybe they just meant in the time before the DMP has started, I can't remember.

Nope, I checked, it's in my welcome pack. There's a template letter for "self-administration" (which just sounds wrong in my view..). And it says just that, "I have taken advice from CCCS". So even though you're not actually using them, you've sought help and are taking it seriously.

Prob safest to switch though. I'm sure they'll take you back at the end of it! I mean, they've not kicked me out yet and I've seriously abused that account!!

Wow, that's great!! I have a £500 ISA, and a little savings pot which I use to build up my annual maintenance fee for my flat, so that's got about £60.. unfortunately they're also with Egg, so they just offset against my loan and tell me I've a slightly smaller minus figure :)

Should I be moving those? Can Egg steal them to pay the loan? I will need to continue adding up the maintenance charges somewhere, and I guess I just like having the ISA! It's my emergency fund (instead of the cards!)

Yep I do still have a PayPlan case number.. and they were still great (even tho they couldnt take me on) .. They said I could still call for advice etc. .. and yep.. I did put the number down on my letter I sent to my creditors (saying I had taken advice from them).. I hadnt really.. they just sent me the pack.. haha.

I read something in a paper article about how debt help companies may soon be encouraging people to go it alone.. (with lots of back up) .. because they were struggling so much to cope with all the people wanting help.

Just shows you really.. we are a 'few' of MANY!..

It said National Debt line.. are taking 800 calls a day.. but 1600 are trying to get help.. (per day!!) .. and that they were estimating 4 million people this year.

and you think.. thats only THEM... Just National Debt line. What about CCCS? Payplan? .. and ALL the ones that charge payments too!.. all those ones you see in adverts etc etc..

I think its hard nowadays to find people who ARENT in debt..

    We are not alone ;):T

Hmmm this is where we need Cocker!!.. hahah!

As far as I know.. some of them do take money you have with them from elsewhere. I don't know about the ISA ..(but if it were me I would be scared to leave that much with them, I don't think I would risk it) I'm not clued up on all the ins and outs yet.. but I think I might move your 'pot' elsewhere.

Dont hold me to that tho.. haha!.. wait till you get a better answer tomorrow.

Read that.. that's puts it more into perspective.

"Millions of households struggling with debt could be unable to access independent advice because debt charities are so overwhelmed they can only answer half of all calls, it emerged today.

National Debtline, the part Government-funded charity, currently receives 1,600 calls a day but is only able to answer 800 because of staff shortages and a lack of funding"

and don't forget.. that is ONLY National Debtline! .. not including CCCS .. Payplan.. or any of the others!

and I have to shut up and get to bed. haha

That is a lot!! and I guess there's also a lot of people out there who haven't found help yet as well.. I mean, I've been struggling for ages but only done something about it this month..

I think I will definitely move my savings away from Egg. I don't trust them enough!! I'll put those somewhere where I've got no debt. Might try one of the banks suggested earlier.

Goodnight! I'm off to bed now as well. Just put all my papers in a little pile to take to work tomorrow so I can get everything copied :D

yep maybe its a good idea.

Look at this (tomorrow.. because we need beauty sleep now ;)

This will help you narrow it down a bit.. you need to choose what suits your needs.. what you can apply for.. and what has NO connection to your debts.

  • just on the way to the post office to send my first payment - was going to start july but just want to get the ball rolling. Its left me with no emergency fund , so I hope i am doing the right thing! :(

I have been answering all my phone calls, upto now they have all been ok, soon as I give them my CCS reference number and their phone number they are fine. Most of them have told me they have now put my account on hold till they hear from CCCS, I know it is early days and this might not last - but I have definately found that answering the phone calls has been best (so far!!)
