Hello guys, be nice, I'm a new DMP member and a little fragile at the minute : )I need to sort out my bank account as i have a loan and credit card with my current banker. I'm just not sure how to go about it, as I've always had a joint account with my partner, all wages go in and all bills, spending come out. some of the DD's are in his name, some are in mine. so should i open a new bank account, have my wages paid in and then stop the old account being a joint one or would it be ok to be joint (they won't take his wages if it's joint will they?)if someone could please just clerify, I'm going to open a new account, have my wages paid in, transfer all loan payments in my name to this account, then the DD's for instance mortagage which is in both our names, just pay half towards it into the old account.this might not make sense but am struggling to explain!! hope someone can make sense of this. : )

If your DMP is in your name only then you need to seperate your finances.

Open a new bank account in your name for your wages, DDs etc. (Natwest & COOP seem to be the favoured ones on here).

Take your name off the joint bank account because they can take his wages to offset your debts.

Transfer money on a monthly basis to his account to cover your joint bills.

    Hope this helps

Hi i just wanted to let you know that i wrote to my creditor the Halifax complained about bank charges and told them that i was experiencing financial hardship eg i was on a DMP etc and they refunded my bank charges which came to over £2000.
It is worth a try it may not always work but you never know, at least it gets the ball rolling. Good luck x

    Hi
Have you got a copy of the letter you sent. Got hubbies cr card statement from virgin and they have charge £12 late fee £12 over limit fee and £65 interest.........nice!!! £90 of charges, and we only pay them £38 on DMP, Is it worth sending letter this early on (3 months of charges) or wait.
    Thanks
    MD xx

Really stupid question here - sorry!

I'm creeping ever closer to getting a DMP, depending on a possible promotion in the next month or so.

I currently have a mortgage with HSBC which is on a fixed rate until Jan10. If I get a DMP, I know that wrecks your credit rating, do i just revert to their standard base rate after the fixed rate ends or do I HAVE to get a re-mortgage with them? And, given that i may be on a DMP would they be able to withdraw my mortgage.

Sorry, i'm a recent first time buyer and I still get a bit confused with the whole mortgage thing - and I guess a bit panicked as well!

    thanks :o

I was told by my mortgage adviser that your current provider has to transfer to the current standard variable rate just like Bigmommamuppet said.

    Hi massive debts,

I am not a great letter writer but i have found the one i sent, it didnt say alot but it did the trick.

I firstly sent a request for all my statements and enclosed the 10.00

they sent me the info and also a letter trying to put me off claiming. It said that basically until the outcome of the court case they were not lokking at cases.

However i ignored that letter and sent my complaint which was a preliminary request for refund of charges.
I requested that they repaid all default charges added in the past 6 years as i beleived they did not reflectthe true cost to them. and 8% interest.
I stated that i beleived that the charges threw us into further debt and financial hardship.

I expained i was experiencing financial hardship, on a DMP in full time student and having 3 children and that due to the FSA waiver they should continue to deal with hardship cases.

They offered a goodwill gesture, no admission of liability of £2250 which of course i agreed.

I hope that helps a little

    Hi,

My payment to Payplan goes out of my account on the 3rd and usually they are paying my creditors around the 10th. Quite a long time really, but its been okay for the last 15 months.

I think as they're existing DD's then you can leave them in your name but coming out of your OH's account, I have an old DD set up in my maiden name and my account is in my married name and haven't had any problems.

Also yes you can include the 1/2 payments in your DMP with the CCCS, when you fill in the budget plan just put the amount your liable for i.e 1/2 the council tax etc.

hurrah! my CCCS pack came through this morning, so I'll start gathering up my documents to send. I can photocopy everything at work on thursday and sort that out.

    Progress :)

I also called barclays to get an appointment for setting up the new account, but not heard back yet (it was quite late in the afternoon when I called).

I want to see the nice lady I spoke to before, as she was really sympathetic! so I'm not chancing it by just walking in.

Annoyingly, you have to phone the call centre, not the branch, so, having just arranged a call back, and confirmed it was regarding a cash card account because I'm in debt... I then had them trying to sell me a monthly paid account.. (as well! not instead of..)

I might see if they can give me a direct number for next time! I'm going off the call centre rapidly.
