If only my local council would provide free school meals, that would save me £5 a day. However you have to be on unemployment benefits to qualify for that, and as I'm working I don't qualify.

I have already cancelled BT phone, Life insurance, equipment insurance, Satelite is my only means of entertainment because I cannot afford to go out. Gas and electric are both on pre payment meters.
with 2 weeks to go before payday.. I have 0.00 in the bank, and already gone into unauthorised overdraft of £57 ( so yay, they'l charge me £50 again this month grrrrr )

I take it your satellite is with Sky? does it inc your broadband? I rang them up and asked to cancel (and was genuinely trying to cancel as was going to move to plusnet BB for £6/month, and just lose the tv channels).

They offered me the variety pack for £3/month, and if I switched my phone to sky talk, I got the broadband free for a while. As I'd already made a payment that month, my account ended up £21 in credit, and they're just taking the £3 a month off that.

Was only a 4 month deal, but I'm secretly hoping when I call back in august to cancel again (and move to plusnet) they'll extend it for a while!

I think I can see why you can't get a DMP - apparently you can only get one if you have at least 3 creditors. Honestly, almost makes you want to go out and get into more debt, doesn't it!;) No, only joking, I really wouldn't advise that!!

It's the way the world works!! on a slightly different topic, I asked the doctor for help losing weight (obviously am incapable of doing ANYTHING myself!!) and was told I was overweight but not overweight ENOUGH to receive any kind of support.

    good-o.

back to the biscuits then. :D

    Hello!
Thought I would introduce myself! I'm new :) I've just sent my online application to CCCS last week, and am waiting for them to get in touch.

Like others have said on here, I was a little hesitant at starting this, due to the impact on my credit rating etc.. but to be honest, I'm wrecking that by carrying on struggling, so may as well get help now rather than later!

I look forward to getting to know you guys :D

and can I have a number please? :)

hi Jemima, I'm new here today too, just sent of my application and awaiting ot here from cccs. It is scary at first, but like you said getting help now rather then later will turn out for the best. I've pushed it further and further, only to end up in more debt and can't wait to get my life back in order now once the DMP starts. counting down 6 years 11 months till debt free : )

Brilliant! I'm on 6 years and 4 months so I'll see you at the end :D

It sounds scary when they put it like that.. but then, surely it would be longer than that if we carried on as we are... so it's only a bit of a sacrifice really.

I kept thinking "my mortgage is due for renewal in that 6 years, I won't be able to get one..", which is probably true. On the other hand, if I don't do this now, I'll get to the point where they'll want the flat back!!

Unfortunately you don't seem to qualify for a Debt Relief Order either as you earn too much

Looking at your budget, I think you can make savings on your Electricity, Mobile Phone, Satellite TV and Clothing. But having said that you need to allow something for your entertainment and an emergency fund.

I take it you are a single parent? Are you receiving any income from the children's father/s? Sorry, not being nosey, just exploring all avenues! Are you getting the right tax credits and childcare vouchers?

Just ideas - there are people who are really good at sorting out SOAs - if you don't get many answers here, maybe post a new thread entitled Please help me sort out my SOA - or something - that will get people's attention!

Yes I'm a single parent, there father is out of work and cannot provide any financial assistance. I cannot take on any overtime at work because it affects my benefits ( Child and working Tax credit )

I am in dire atm and already behind on my rent by £200. :( Things not looking gd for next month either

Sorry things are so rough for you at the mo, Mandi, I think maybe CAB can help with general debt advice if CCCS, PayPlan etc can't help? Would it be possible to speak to your creditors directly and tell them about the problems you are having to see if they can accept token payments, say between £1 to £5 for a few months, while you sort your finances out?

Welcome Jemima and hello to everyone!
All my paperwork has been finalised and I am starting my DMP on June 1st. I'll be paying a total of £928 over 8 creditors and looking at the figures CCCS sent me, my payments through CCCS aren't drastically lower than my original payments.

Does this make it more likely that they will accept my DMP?

    Just wondering really............
Proud to be dealing with my debts
