Thanks, they called again later on Friday night so I answered and said again that I had already spoken to someone and informed of the dmp. He apologised and said he would note the file and the calls would stop and they have...so far.

    Hi ad1jnl and mcrfan!

Thank you both so much for your replies and support. Sounds like we're all in the fairly early stages of debt management and it's good to know there are others in the same situation - although it's not something I would wish on anyone. Hopefully things will settle down for everyone once we've paid a few months of DMP and the creditors have got the message that we cannot pay them what we don't have. (My new mantra - CCCS counsellors say it all the time I find!)

Mcrfan - I'm really concerned about your panic attacks and can completely understand how you feel. I've been on antidepressants for some time over the worry of debt (plus other things but anyway..). People on this site may have differing opinions on the use of medication to deal with stress, but I find it works for me! And (being slightly tongue in cheek here), at least my CCCS budget plan covers prescriptions! In all seriousness, last year before I had my light bulb moment I was finding myself at the end of the month weighing up between food, petrol and prescription. And sometimes the prescription lost, which in retrospect is crazy. But please mcrfan, speak to your doctor if you need to as surely no debt, and no amount of reckless spending, is worth bad health for. As ad1jnl points out, credit has become way too easy to get and the banks don't seem to care how we will pay it back.

I too am worried about people contacting me re my debts. It's a bit sneaky but I've gone online and changed my contact details for my creditors. As you live with your parents, maybe change your details to just your mobile number (delete home phone) and e-mail, thereby keeping it manageable. If all else fails you can block their numbers on the phone and change e-mail.

But to be fair, the various creditors I've spoken to so far have been ok. They asked for extra payment - I said no - they said this may lead to all sorts of nasties like default letters, passing to a DCA, bailiffs etc, which scares the hell out of me, but I just replied that I was on a DMP - speak to the CCCS please. From reading most of the 149 pages (!!!) on this thread, I gather that these threats are commonplace and part of their way of getting extra money out of you. I guess we've just got to hold firm - deal with calls politely but say you have no money and advise them to call the DMP provider for more info on your budget etc.

As far as calls to work are concerned, I've removed my work phone number online from the various banks, but remember that banks do sometimes call people so if that happens to you, just tell your colleagues they were querying a payment or something.

I doubt if it's worth their time sending out bailiffs etc - can you imagine how much that costs! So all the more reason to remain polite but firm with calls so it doesn't get that far.

Hope this helps. Hopefully a more experienced DMP-er will post a reply to put your mind at rest. But just remember, you are NOT alone so please don't feel isolated.

    Best wishes

Thanks for your reply. I have been to the Drs on and off for the past year or so with depression and anxiety alot to do with debt but other things too. I am waiting for an appointment with a counsellor so will see how that goes. I might just end up going on about my debt and who has been calling me!!!
I have also decided to leave my 2nd job - I work saturdays in a clothes shop - yes I know - and have found it quite draining working 6 days a week and I know it might seem silly when obviously I need the extra cash but I don't feel it is helping my mental health so I have decided to leave in a few weeks time. Plus me working in a clothes shop is like an alcoholic working in a pub.....!!!

I am feeling very uneasy about this week as all of my payments are due around the 2nd so I think this is when it will all kick off. I have sent some letters off and will do the rest tomorrow. I feel jittery each time the phone rings already!
I have also been through my accounts online and changed the numbers where I can, not sure if this will work but tried anyway!
I'm not sure where they had my work number from as it wasn't online!
I am worried about what they may threaten you with but hopefully I can avoid speaking to them on the phone.
I have not received my dmp welcome pack yet, I hope this arrives soon. I hope they have started contacting my creditors as it is all going to kick off this week. I really hope that this is the start of helping sort my debt but am soo worried about what is going to happen.

Hopefully this week will be ok :(

They cant send any bailiffs to your house without first taking you to court. Only then, you would have to default on a court order for this to happen.

Some DCA's have internal "field collection agents" who think they have the same rights as a bailiff. THEY DO NOT!!! In fact, they have as much right to enter your property as a paper boy!!! If they come calling, inform them that they are trespassing and tell them where to go!!!

    Cocker:)

Thanks that makes me a feel bit better that there won't be any baliffs turning up!!

icecube2009 - Not sure on CCCS, though I believe it will be a few weeks at least... Send token payments of between £1-£5 to each creditor till all setup. I would imagine though that it'll be setup by May.

I assumed CCCS would give me some sort of template letter to send out with the token payments, but not sure about this, can someone advise me plaese, or does someone have a copy of a letter I can send out please, Thanks

Hi could someone give me advice as to whether to let the c/card companies know I am not paying the full amount ie Just send a lower payment via internet banking so it reaches the payment date in time or send them a letter and token payment but it will not get there on due date?
And do you think if I rung my banks regarding my loans do you think I should ask if I can pay less this month or payment break, or tell them I am going on a DMP with payplan. Or regardless to what I ask them they will take the full amount anyway.
One last thing if I have a o/draft of 200.00 and it does not cover my minimum payment of 332.38 what happens about that?? Do they add charges and keep adding?? or will they stop when payplan contacts them??

Hi, if you have a DMP set up with payplan then only send token payments either way, it shouldn't matter if they are late or not.

As for the loans, if paying the loans will leave you struggling till next payday then only send them token payments as well but you may have to discuss this with payplan if it will take you into an overdraft. If you do go over your overdraft limit then it can be added to your DMP later.

I am with the CCCS but the important thing at this stage is to pay ALL your priority debts (household bills, food etc...) and non-priority debts can be sent token payments until your DMP is up and running.

    Hope this helps

I've just read through the last couple of pages and noticed there seems to be people nervous about phone calls.

This is my second month on a DMP and at first the FIRST phone call I received I told them I was on a DMP with CCCS and gave my reference number. If I then received any further calls I refused to go through the security checks so they had to hang up,or tell them to contact you by letter and that you are recording the call (that usually made them hang up as well !)

To date all my creditors except for HSBC stopped the phone calls. I had to send a letter of harrassment to HSBC last week and finally this weekend they have stopped calling as well. Actually I'm disappointed as I used to look forward to our "little chats" in pidgeon english:rotfl:

My advice would be if the call is from the UK then talk to them as all my creditors have been ok and nice to talk to. If you get someone from any "global call centres" then see what I said above.

To all you newbies, don't get stressed, take control and things will work out in the end. As someone else on here said, I actually look forward to opening my mail just to see what they have come up with next :rotfl:

I applied for my DMP online on the CCCS website last week and received the first letter and info from them two days later so hopefully you'll receive the same soon. They include a 'notification of debt management plan' form which you have to photocopy, fill out with your info and send to each creditor. I've sent my token payments with this form.
