I completely understand what you're saying  It does become a bit of an obsession doesn't it!? I am having probs with 2 of my creditors and was obsessively trying to find posts which mentioned them to see how they "might" treat me -I've realised now they seem to have as much consistency as a throw of the dice so I'm just going with the flow, so to speak :o

Anyway, as I've read so many times, being in debt is NOT a crime and we don't have to be intimidated by these people. Keep strong people!!!! :T

I find that's the worse thing is to find out 'bad things' about creditors (of course you may find good, but no-one wants to mention that do they?). It's like researching possible illnesses on t'internet. Worse thing you could possibly do!

This is in breach of OFT guidelines on debt collecting.

They are not allowed to ask you to borrow more money to pay them off!!!

Kindly point that out to them if they call again and inform them that you are recording the call for security!!!(You dont have to really record it, just tell them you are!!!)

    Cocker:)

I've actually had that asked of me a few times and thought it was a bit rude of them to say so...

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of setting up my DMP with CCCS and my creditors are Barclaycard, Egg and Marbles credit card. I am really worried about taking this step but reading this forum has been a great help.

Can someone please confirm that having a bank account with Barclays Bank isn't a good idea as they are linked to Barclaycard ? Would Barclaycard take money from the Barclays bank account ?

Also, is a bank account with Nat West or HSBC ok ? I've tried to work out which credit cards are linked to which banks and I think both of those banks haven't got any links with Barclaycard, Egg or Marbles, but if anyone can confirm this for me it would be a great help, thanks.
  • Hi
I have just taken the plunge & applied on line for my DMP with CCCS (I am a bit shaky! silly eh, finally getting sorted, but am really nervous!!). Can anyone tell me how long it will take before I hear from them? I have downloaded the booklet which I am just about to read, whats my next step? I have a couple of Credit card payments due on 2nd April, should I just send them a token payment? should I be able to start the DMP by May or is that too soon??

    Thanks

Welcome LadyDay! - I would advise not having a bank account with Barclays if you have a CC with Barclaycard.

It looks like Marbles is run by HFC, who are a part of HSBC, so I wouldn't choose HSBC as an account. A step(?) account with Natwest has been popular with DMPers on here, as have Co-Op's Cashminder. Both accounts are basic ones, and normally wouldn't include overdrafts (as it is more debt!), chequebooks or Visa Debit cards (Though I got a Visa Electron with my Cashminder Account).

I can't fault my Cashminder account 6 months in. You get online banking, customer service is good, and I've just setup a savings account with them that automatically linked to my online banking and bank account.

icecube2009 - Not sure on CCCS, though I believe it will be a few weeks at least... Send token payments of between £1-£5 to each creditor till all setup. I would imagine though that it'll be setup by May.

Yes, they will. And before anyone questions me on this I have been in a branch when someone has argued with staff over having it done to them. However, it happens. And it is the same for any other card/bank account links. If I have any of that wrong I am sorry but just passing on what was said to me and have read on many forums. I really don't know anymore.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
  • Thanks think I might take it two at a time, I have 7 debts under DMP - I am determined to do Welcome Finance if its the last thing I ever do !!. Think if I do two then see how I get on. Just to clarify i do the CCA they have 12 working days to reply and 2 days for postage. If they dont I then place the account in dispute and dont need to continue payments. I then send a further letter giving them 30 days - if after this I can apply to get the agreement cancelled etc. However if they send the agreement fully complete then its classed as enforceable.

    what is a CCA?

  • Consumer Credit Agreement. Though, I have seen on some forums people arguing over whether it means 'Consumer Credit Act'.

And the 30 day rule no longer applies as of last year. It is now 12+2 working days and it can be produced at any time after and be enforced. Confusing. Yes, I know.
