I also got 4 letters today also, 1 from RMA, 1 form Aegis, 1 statement from mint and 1 letter from nationwide all saying that I have failed to bring arrears up to date and making no mention of token pyt or CCCS contact. My statement from Mint also never showed any token pyt. Makes you wonder, and these letters are just the same letters we had lst week and week before:mad:

Eriberri, I don't bother phoning back if i miss calls or get these messages. I'm pretty sure i can predict what they are going to say. Let them try again if it's important enough (which i doubt it is)!

And i love that they said they weren't going to renew. Well dur!

Cheesypuff I didn't send any of mine back! Infact i haven't even cut them up! Don't know why as i haven't used them for a very long time (One i did end of last year coz i had no choice and no other money but that's all) and have no intention of using them now! just hadn't bothered! they're just in a drawer!

You'd think they'd be so practised at this now it would go smoother wouldn't you! With so many people doing it!

I don't even know what they expect to happen if they say they haven't received it! nothing will change! they won't get any more from me!

  • Posted a massive essay yesterday afternoon (#2649 and #2660, p133) about F&F settlements, and it was only when reading through pages 1-45 last night (and also finding the link with CCCS counsellers on it that I was looking for), that this is primarily to do with DMPs - apologies.

That said, everyone here seems very friendly and quick to reply so I have a quick question anyway

Barclaycard have gone from villain to hero, in that they have (verbally) offered 50% F&F. This will leave our fighting fund a bit low for the other creditors, but I am tempted get my dad to accept (assuming written offer removes all future liability etc etc) as it will get one monkey off our back.

What I want to know is, is there a legal requirement to disclose this to the other creditors, or settle at the same level, as per the obligation when on a DMP not favour one creditor over another. Or can Barclaycard get a premium for being first to settle without impacting negotiations with the others?

Any advice gratefully received, as want to get back to them today

    Hi there
My husband and are have just got our letter from the CCCS and we're about to start a DMP to begin paying of our round about £38k debts. Which are the result of a combination of spending money we don't have together with my having to give up work 2 1/2 years ago due to ME/CFS. I do actually feel really positive, or try to as much as I can, because we are now doing something to sort out our debts instead of watching them go up, and also my health is improving loads so I expect to be able to earn some money again before long.
Anyway some of this debt stuff is a bit scary so thought I'd post on here to get some encouragement and ideas from you guys who are already going through it.
Would love to hear from any of you!

Wow - I don't come online for a bit and I have hundreds of posts to catch up on (well almost!). A bunch of chatterboxes :D

I have a couple of questions if I may - sending off my CCCS paperwork tomorrow (statements etc). What is the next step? How do I make payments to CCCS?

Also, I've seen a post saying you can access your debts etc online - will I get a username etc once CCCS have set my plan up?

Still catching up posts so haven't seen last few days but noticed MFM hadn't been posting - everything ok there?

I know I'm only starting this DMP journey and expect some nasty letters/phonecalls to come, but just sending my token payments and paperwork to CCCS makes me feel lighter! Or maybe it's just the sunshine! :D

  • Hi Nancy

I am just at the same stage as you, so wanted to say hello. Our debts are larger (around 79k) - jesus, that is the first time I have put that in writing, scary. Should take us around 7 years to pay back, then will de debt free the first time for 20 odd years!

    Good luck.

There are no legal requirements to tell anyone about the settlement between yourselves & Barclaycard, it's a private matter. It's only a guideline that when on a DMP you take the total amount available & split it between all creditors at a certain percentage & show each what you are offering the others, but you don't have to do it that way. Anyone may get a small amount of cash (eg. on a birthday) & decide they want to settle a small debt which in turn allows their monthly payment to be split between the other creditors etc.

If you're in a position to settle at 50% then I'd take it, thats a decent offer.

I have another question, we are looking at starting a DMP very soon, my only worry is we have a fixed rate mortgage with northern rock that we are tied into till January 2010. Would i be better holding off on the DMP until after next Jan & seeing if I can get a better mortgage deal so I have more available cash?
Also a couple of our debts are small ones, a couple of overdrafts, one for £600 and one for £250, and a next directory account which is £700, would it seem more sensible to try & clear these up first too (although havent a clue how) rather than add them to the DMP & drag them out over years? (have been quoted ten years to pay back all debt if interest all stopped)
