Hi me again see I am trying to organise myself I have fell behind on everything in life so I am whipping myself virtually into action!
Is anyone else having trouble with catalogue companies? I am I have one where they made out they had lost payments of £25 and I only owe them £125, they refused to find it and told me the onus was on me to provide proof - well I am internet banking with no statements and it went back a while so it was going to cost me £5 to request copies of cheques - being an MSE at the time I decided requesting a CCA was only a £1 so went that route that was about 15 months ago and they could not provide one. Now out the blue they provide a letter saying they are thes ones the catalogue company choose to chase the debt not a CCA - so who do I report them to?
Also another catalogue was Empire went over to Littlewoods they were Ok then they wanted payments to go from £4 to £80 and literally threatened to default me if I did not. I wrote back telling them they were not allowed to ask for more than I could afford and they had already defaulted me - well the little blighters have gone and defaulted me again - so anyone know if I can do anything about that?
Oh and for the peeps asking about my little one - she is still poorly, very pale, had to buy pinafore dresses she has lost so much weight. Everyone says its normal to have cold after cold starting school - which I believe my worry is why is it knocking her so much. Suspected pneumonia and chest, throat and ear infections all at once aren't normal catching up on bugs also she has had two big sisters bringing her germs for years - anyway one problem at a time....
Hope everyone elses family is in good health. I have now I am back definately missed people! Sometimes you don't realise till you come back and have someone to talk to about money.0 -
how do loans work on DMPs? I've just gotten my statement for my TSB loan and almost half of what I pay each month goes back on as interest.
Unsecured loans are the same as credit card debt... its just they can either load the interest on inone lump at the start of the loan, or add the interest as the loan progresses.
As with Credit Cards, they can usually be negotiated with, and, if the debt is not paid, can be defaulted and follow the same path as the credit cards.
If the Loan is secured though, they have rights over your property or whatever it has been secured against.LBM - Oct - 08 DMP Started - Feb -09

Try not to worry too much about the interest regarding a loan I know its scary as all Martins training tells us to but the idea of a DMP is to suspend or reduce interest and if its frontloaded or if they add it on you can negotiate later to claim it back.0

I had this problem with Great Universal - part of littlewoods.
They refused to speak to me as CCCS were acting so I argued that I still owed the debt. Eventually got through to someone who told me I needed the "Missing Payments Department" - they have a whole department dedicated to it
After getting through to that department, telling them exactly what date the CCCS sent the payment, that it was a cheque, and that it was a bulk payment with my reference included etc, they found all my payments
The issue arose because they changed all the catalogue account numbers and never notified me!!!
I CCA'd them but they never replied, but as they found the payments I was fine and let that go. I then tried to close my account as it was all paid off (and £1 in credit) and they were threatening to issue court proceedings if I didn't pay -£1
Ended up complaining to financial ombudsman because they referred it to debt collection when I was in credit and wouldn't close the account but apparently I'd written my GU complaint to a wrong address (it needed to go to the umbrella company HQ not to GU) so the FO just advised them to deal with it and told me I had another so many days for them to sort it out.
I wouldn't have minded so much but I only owed them £70 at the start of the DMP (and over £30k in total to everyone else!!)
Stick with it - but definitely ask if there is a specific "missing payments" department - they were helpful when I finally got through to the right people!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Anyway it's cold here and my car heaters have decided not to work today so it was cold all the way to work. Have just posted for help on another thread and it might not be great news by the looks. So will be off for a walk to get some antifreeze/coolant for the car and fingers crossed. Got no money for car repairs so am screwed if it's more serious (6 miles to work and then 6 miles back again)
Still. Not much else I can do.
Why is it that no matter how hard I try, I never seem to build up an emergency fund or a car repair fund???
It's in the budget, but just seems to get spent on food or other bits needed for the home - like blankets or curtain linings .working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
When we had car repairs to pay for the problem was our car not budgetting we used to have money in a separate account (went out via standing order) but the car did not check the balance before it broke down. It was a thoughtless car!0

If you buy antifreeze coolant make sure you get the right one when we had our astra there were apparently two types one synthetic and gowd knows what the other was. We had a problem with the head gasket and we kept losing coolant, as you can see we fully understood mechanics - not!0

Real crap day here yesterday guys! OH lost his job!
Feel so shiit really do, I had hoped after everything we had been through together during the last few months that finally we had kicked ourselves up the behind and finally tackled our debt together by starting up a DMP. That was scary in itself but being on here reading others stories didn't make it feel quite so bad. There was a way out finally.
We owe alot and even though the initial payment was reduced I kept going on to CCCS and clicking their debt clalculator to see how much a fiver or a tenner extra payment would take us to, how it could reduce the debt just by a few months. Well now I feel really down I cried last night so much my pillow was soggy. It seems like we are going backwards, I was so hopeful feeling stronger each time I came here researching ppi facts and how to claim back charges and now this????
It just messes everything up. I have phoned tax credits and OH has an appointment with the local DWP office next week to see about getting jsa, he won't because we are living together. I work and they will make payments up with tax credits but as for the DMP, forget it.
I went on to CCCS and pretended to be a new person with the same details estimating new tax credits amounts and it came up with bankruptcy or token payments. I don't want to go bankrupt and neither does OH, this won't last forever and bankruptcy well it just seems so final. If OH gets a new job a few months down the line then that will mess it up.
Just a question - you can't be forced to go bankrupt can you? We do not own a house or have massive of antiques hidden away in a shed somewhere and don't want to go down this option. I'd rather pay every penny back, not just for morality reasons but the debt amount will reduce significantly if we are sucessful with ppi reclaims from loans and cards so it won't be such a massive amount anymore.
But for the time being I don't know I suppose with the 11 creditors they will have to make do with £1 token payments. Is anyone making token payments on here? All but one creditor has stopped interest and the only option for them is to go for ccj's. After being on here that part doesn't bother me anymore. I never want credit again so it doesn't bother me about my credit file.
The only thing that would go in our favour is the situation alot of us are facing at the minute, job losses, income decreasing but as long as we pay token payments it should be ok til OH gets a new job or starts back building again.
Sorry for the depressing news, I usually come on here so cheerful and upbeat but just feel like we have gone backwards and can see no change at least for a few months til the work situation improves in the area and the country. It's not like we are going to starve or be cold, the rent and council tax will be paid before anything but I don't know, just when you think you are getting somewhere

Hi Toffeepenny,
Really sorry to hear your news, hope things improve for you shortly.:)
With regards to your question about bankruptcy, a creditor can petition a bankruptcy order against you, but only if the debt is for over £750. This can only be done after they issue you with a statutory demand for payment. However, it does cost them to do it and seeing as you dont own your own home, then there wouldn't really be any point in them doing it, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Have you requested copies of your credit agreements yet? If they cant produce one, then the debt would become unenforceable anyway.
Hope this answers you question. Dont get yourself down about everything. They cant have what you haven't got and remember, you always have us lot on here for comfort.
Take care,
Cocker:)0
