    Hi Toffee Penny

When I used the CCCS thingybob it came up as low start DMP or to sell my house and use the bit we had so I am not a token paymenter if you like but I am a long term low start. (wow we can create new categories of DMPS here!) Some of my companies for a year or two only get a £1 or just over.

I wouldn't call it a step back I would say its more of a breather while your partner gets different work. In your favour is the fact that you are already on a DMP so your creditors are aware and they may moan and groan but the priorities are living and eating so they will have to put up with a £1. I know its easy to say when its not you in the situation but try not to worry too much it just does not stop things happening it just clouds our judgements or makes us ill.

Hi Toffee Penny, just wanted to send a big hug and hope things get better for you soon :grouphug: , you're always such a positive, helpful voice on here. If any of the creditors are rude to you just remind yourself that as a taxpayer you own most of the UK financial institutions so they'd better behave  .

Rayday - Do keep us updated about your little one - push the doctors, demand referrals and if you still get nowhere, go to the out of hours doc in the evening as they seem to hospital refer which speeds everything up.

Toffee Penny - Sorry to hear about your OH. *hugs*
Was he self employed? Otherwise he should get one type of JSA for six months, I'm sure (just can't remember which is Income or Contributions - ask on the Benefits board :)) .
Don't worry about your DMP, pay token payments, the creditors will have to understand for now.

Hey toffeepenny, sorry about the job thing you must be gutted.
My Oh was self employed but absolutely zilch was coming in or him so he had to throw in the towel recently and start looking for other emploment.
He went to try to claim JSA and could claim a big fat nothing, for whatever weird reasons they use to decide on the claim.
We are now down to one part time wage coming in, its not easy so I really sympathise with you.
Until I get paid at the end of Jan we have basically nothing to live on, we're being very creative with strange mixtures of ingredients for meals!
It worries me a bit because he can only pay his credotors token payments for forseeable future (the DMP is only for my debt), we own our house so theoretically they could try to make us bankrupt somewhere down the line, I just try not to think that far ahead and hope things improve on the employment front sooner rather than later.
Sorry for the moan I meant this post to be supportive to you, not go on about myself, so I really hope things get better for you soon.
    hang on in there.

  • A big THANK YOU to all who commented after my post, thanks for the support, I had tears in my eyes reading through your comments (WIMP! :o ). Any chance of lending us a few quid? :rotfl: Let's face it we are all here because of the same thing and I am very grateful to have somewhere to escape to at night after putting on a smiley happy face at work all day.

Right gonna bore you all to death now with my looooong post :o

Have to make sense of the fact that I can't change the situation, we are still surface diving in the brown stuff and I have yet to make the call to CCCS to talk through our next option.

Had a jsa document through today which is like a bloody magazine to complete, OH not too happy about going to the jobcentre to meet with a work advisor who will probably sit there and ask 'what are you doing to look for work?, fancy retraining?' RETRAINING for what? trolley pusher? where are the jobs?

He won't get anything, not one bloody penny despite working since he was 16, being self employed he pays class 2 and class 4 contributions however to be entitled to any benefit (or pension) you should pay class 1, which is what most people will pay automatically working. Being self employed you basically get taxed to death and should pay class 1 voluntarily on top of class 2 and class 4. Joke isn't it unless you can afford a good accountant who can fiddle a tax return to get a good tax rebate.

Anyway as I understand it he won't qualify for contribution based jsa (lack of class 1 contribution) and won't get income based jsa either because I am working. Wait for it cause this is a real insight into how crap the benefit system is if you find yourself out of work!! He wouldn't qualify for income based jsa because I work over 24 hours!! I work THIRTY!! so if I worked 22 or 23 he would qualify for something!! EH??????

Despite this we did have a laugh last night though, well you have to it's the only thing that keeps us sane living with our dirty secret of debt (thats how it feels sometimes away from this forum doesn't it?) I was going to be a pole dancer but after having two kids we laughed I wouldn't get many tenners stuffed into my g-string plus I'm crap at dancing but for the price of a pack of ten fags I have gained a cleaner and a cook! So it isn't all that bad!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

take care everyone and thanks for the kind words xxx

  • I just wanted to ask the wise folk on here their opinion on what they would recommend to do...........

Total debt is about £50k, unsecured and all seperate (no joint debt) I owe £10k OH owes £40k

Hopefully this will be reduced if ppi reclaiming is successful, one claim alone for OH is worth a staggering £9792!!   now you can understand why I have become so driven to get every bit back and what a success would mean to our total debt.

In the mean time we are on (well no longer be soon) a joint DMP should I get CCCS to take OH creditors off and start a new DMP just for me and work out a small payment to pay mine but pay OH the token payments

    OR

forget the DMP and pay all creditors £1 token payment?

I am just trying to work out the best way to go, what would you do? what would be best? I'm just thinking it would be easier to argue it out with OH's 6 creditors rather than fighting all 11

    God I HATE debt! :o

Pay all creditors the £1 then there's no favouritism, no new DMP to setup which could cause them to flap and you have a little more to live on.

It depends what you earn obviously but there's a possibility you might qualify for Tax Credits, stick your details into entitledto.com - it's worth a shot.

  • OMG! Toffee Penny ... I'm so, so sorry to hear your news. I dont know, I didnt sneak on the 'puter last night and I missed being there for you. Big hugs :grouphug:

Has your payment for this month to CCCS already left your bank - could you stop it perhaps to help tide you over for this month and get some "thinking space"?

What kind of work does your hubby do/would like to do ... I could help search all the job sites and help you bombard companies with his CV?

It's such a big shock - I know, I was there last June when I lost my job. All in all it took me 6 weeks to start my new one and our finances were already in such a mess before that happened.

I'm pondering on your last question ... at the moment I dont know. I would be more inclined to stop the CCCS plan and return to paying them all £1 while you try to get things sorted.

Can you get any temporary overtime in where you work that might help out?

I just KNOW that if anyone can get through this, then you can.

There's lots of suggestions for you on here already so I'm sure you are busy looking into everything that you can.

    Thinking of you,
