It might not be ideal, but if you do a lot of your shopping from the same shop, can you buy savings stamps from them (I know that Morrison's do these but not sure about the other big supermarkets) - it might reduce your savings to below the necessary threshold but you would still have funds available for a weekly shop. Or even stock up on some things that won't go off??
I'm no expert but it might help with the benefilts come January but still leave a bit of breathing space for you....

First day back at work today after three months sick leave and I will indeed be unemployed come the end of January! The official line seems to be that I was covering maternity leave, which is rubbish as my boss was not even PG when I was interviewed.
Have finally managed to sign up for PlusNet landline and broadband at £17 a month, only slightly more than the £15 mobile broadband I have with Three. Hopefully will get £38 cashback for the signing up. :T
Over the weekend I need to find out whether the ex-Mr. Fire Fox has paid this month's council tax which is due by tomorrow. Once he has done this I can claim the 25% single occupancy discount and will then pay it off in full as this removes money from my savings.
Is there anybody you trust enough to give some of your savings as a "gift" while you find another job ? Im sure that would be an easier option so that you still have the savings somewhere.0 -

I'm trying to work out how much I can get away with spending on myself, and chalking it up to Christmas .... my boiler needs servicing too. It has occurred to me that supermarket spending won't flag up too much, and conveniently they sell wine.claire0788 wrote: »Is there anybody you trust enough to give some of your savings as a "gift" while you find another job ? There are rules against 'deprivation of capital', if you are deemed to have done this you get benefits as if you still had the money. Even paying a lump sum off your mortgage doesn't go down well! I think I am going to have to write to our new freeholder and get some movement on the service charge arrears.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
