You could make an unbaked cheesecake - crushed biscuits, cream cheese and fruit. More of an assembly job than anything and doesn't involve any baking - but still much nicer than a frozen one from Asda.
Maybe an orange or lemon one as stuff like strawberries and raspberries is not in season.
Eg: No-bake orange cheesecake ->

There are some nice tips in the comments like using chocolate digestives instead of plain or melted chocolate instead of melted butter to make a chocolate orange cheesecake. Yum!
Or going with the excellent Italian /Tiramisu idea above (I love Tiramisu!), how about:

Or, I have not made it but I like the idea of Nigella's Baileys Tiramisu, I think Lidls do a cheap 'copy' of Baileys. Needs to be made the night before though. http://www.nigella.com/recipe/recipe_detail.aspx?rid=76"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

How about a trifle mix? A mix of shop brought and home made. It always disappears in this house quick.:j0

I always think a fresh fruit salad looks and tastes divine, and also looks like a lot of work when really its not... some fresh cream and you have a perfect dessert..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Lasagne will be quite filling so I'd go for an Eton Mess type thing. Large glasses, crushed meringue nests (80p), whipped double cream (80p ish) frozen fruit (berries, etc from Farmfoods £1) and you've got a scrummy pudding.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0

great idea fletch but would have to be made while there or meringue will go soggy. take it nearly prepared and sure it will be a hit.Make £11,000 in 2011 / ebay £6000

My Grandma does her own version of Eton Mess. Instead of berries she smashes up some Crunchie bars and mixes these with the merangue, whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce.
My favourite easy dessert to make is banoffee pie. Just make a biscuit base with digestives and butter, boil a can of condensed milk to make the toffee sauce. Slice some bananas to cover your biscuit base, cover in toffee sauce, top with whipped cream and some chocolate shavings, yumIMO Banoffee Pie always tastes better the day after you make it, so you could do it the before.

My sister has invited me to dinner on saturday, we are both struggling money wise and i thought i'd be nice and offer to do the pudding so we where both contributing.
Anyway she rang up this afternoon and has told me she's making a lasagna from scratch especially for me as she know's i can't eat anything overly processed because of my diet.
Anyway this puts me into abit of a bind haha... love sister's dont ya.
you see i'd planned to let saturday be my cheat day for my diet but she's gone to soooo much trouble making pasta from scratch etc that i feel guilty.
My planned contribution towards dinner was a pre-made dessert from asda, you know a frozen cheesecake or something but now i kinda feel i should get my finger out and cook something from scratch too, you know i don't want to let the side down haha.
Anyway heres the catch im a terrible cook .... well thats not true i cook pretty well.. im just a terrible baker, i just never do sweet thing.
So has anyone got any IDIOT proof, fabulous pudding ideas??? something that looks great, tastes great and will show i made an effort?? (and hopefully won't break the bank)
We have a whole thread of pudding - I'll add thos thread to keep ideas together
Enjoy your party, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Fresh or even well drained tinned fruit salad would be a great finish to the meal. I like mine with Fresh Fruit Salad Dressing Any fruits will do.Take the first step.
Even if you cannot see the whole staircase,
Just take the first step.

I always think a fresh fruit salad looks and tastes divine, and also looks like a lot of work when really its not... some fresh cream and you have a perfect dessert..
My failsafe fruit salad is to make it entirely from red fruit - watermelon, blueberries, raspberries, red grapes. Somehow, it looks more expensive/appetising. If you are on a budget, leave out either the blueberries or raspberries as these are often dear, or see what's on special offer. I would use half the watermelon and save the other side for Sunday.
Greek yoghurt also tastes nice with it (but not as nice as cream)0 -
