If DH wants something with pastry how about rhubard and rasp. tarts or turnovers?

Stew the rhubard then add the washed raspberries then, sweeten to taste (and add a touch of cointreau , rum or sherry if you're feeling decadent), wrap in the pastry and cook for about half an hour until the pastry is cooked.

i have voluteered myself to take care of the sweet stuff for the new years eve buffet. there will be approx 10 of us.

when it comes to dessert, no one is particularly fussy (in so far as they will eat anything!) so if anything i've got too many ideas.

    chocolate cake
    carrot cake
    victoria sponge
    marble cake ('iced' with chocolate)
    coffee cake

or do i go down the lots of different mini nibbles route, rather than one big slice of cake...?

fairy cakes/ flapjacks, home made biscuits, rice crispie cakes :D

or do i go down the dessert route

    cheesecake
    chocolate fondue
D&DD's apple plait (instead of a streusel style pud)

anyone want to help me narrow it down a bit? or throw any other ideas into the mix?

  • I quite like the idea of the nibbles as that will probably fit in with the buffet idea (if you are having nibbly things.)

It's also really unusual so something different!

For my Mom's birthday party a couple of years ago, I just had plates of mini choc eclairs (really easy to make choux pastry) which were just enough for people to pop straight into their mouths and they were a real hit!

A big bowl of trifle and meringues again, not in the same bowl.. Although Eton Mess is a bit trifley and dead easy to do, whipped cream, crushed meringues and fruit mixed together. Make it look pretty on top though..

  • If it's a big 'do' it's also worth thinking about how much you want to spend....
