I'm getting worried that when I do go out in my car which has a heated screen, it wont work.
I've got a PocketPC SatNav in my Galaxy, which has a heated windscreen.
You will need an extension antenna to make your SatNav work I'm afraid. The elements in the heated windscreen block the signal completely, unless you can position it so that the SatNav unit is at the edge of the windscreen where there are no elements.
On my Galaxy, I have a separate antenna which I have placed inside the little triangular quarterlight window between the driver's door and the windscreen.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
RICHIE wrote:HI, if your searching for one of those barg sat NAVS at Somerfield, dont bother with the GARMIN model at £99. Think about this for an extra thirty quid For my money it would have to be the Medion at £130 (originally about £250), not only is it a fab sat nav (thats also handheld) you can actually pop it in your pocket. It has a large screen, but wait for this, when we got ours home we found out it was also a groovy personal handheld PC with full windows operating system, Word, Excel, MP3 Player, Photo Image viewer (just had to pop in a photo memory card and up popped all our pics on screen) What a barg...... and its in a sexy silver colour with all mod con accesories too.
Yes, it's quite obviously a Pocket PC, cos that's what it says on the box!!
Also, you don't need to bother cutting and pasting the same text into several different threads!
Some people just want a SatNav unit, hence the Garmin i3 is ideal for them. Others may want a PocketPC, in which case go for the Medion/Micromaxx/Mio168 clone.
This model has been out for 2 years - some people might say that makes it old, but don't let that worry you. You don't need break-kneck processor speed on a Pocket PC after all!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

I've got a 2005 model Mondeo with heated screen and my Garmin i3 seems to work fine when placed dead center bottom just above the dash.. I was under the impression its just the "thermic" screens fitted to some Renaults etc that cause the problems. They actually have a metalic reflective layer to reflect the suns heat and it completly covers the screen..0 -
Yep,
I got mine From Woolies a couple of weeks ago for £145 and I'ts great.. I was split between the Tomtom one and the Garmin but I can't really see the Tomtom being worth the extra £70ish. The Garmin is easy to use, the voice commands are clear and the screen (while being one of the smallest) is still very easy to see.. I presonally would not want a large back lit (Tomtom size) screen in front of me when driving at night..
The only feature I've found missing in the Garmin is the ability to charge the (optional) internal "AA" size batteries when it's connected to a 12 volt supply.. But it's a minor gripe!!
At £99 I'm gonna get another one if I can find one locally!!0 -
Anyone thinking they need an external aerial for the i3 because they have a athermic windscreen can get one from Maplin for £10, Bargain.

ok morning update, seems this offer is national BUT the store I visited this morning had told me on phone they were £149, shelf was also priced at that, yet they scan at £99, so don't take staff's word unless they actuall scan item, ignore shelf labels. Assume the prices are controlled centrally. Great find to OP though. Cheers0

My husband got one from Kwik Save in Warrington last night for £99.99 but it was the last one. He had called into the Rochdale store yesterday though, where he first saw them, and they had some left.0
