Apparently Garmin have just updated the POI loader and its causing problems with the speed cam updates, I think they'll have to do some tweaking to it so just be patient for now.

Thanks Northern_Munky. I received an email from garmin with a walkthrough and it still comes back with the problem, no mention of the POI Loader causing problems but hey, they aren't going to mention that are they !! Many thanks for the info, I'll have to wait then !
  • won't take it the wrong way but as I said on page 49 have read the thread, but really only concentrating on the Garmin as that what I thought was looking to be the best buy, until I was told that the medion did the same thing and more for not much difference in price and thought maybe someone could give me a quick answer rather that re-reading the now 50 pages,
a please & thank you is all it takes

Got a Garmin and as I don't do motorway driving have selcted the options to avoid highways - this doesn't appear to be working as it tries to take me on the M1!!

Any ideas to rectify this please??

Turn round as soon as possible then turn left at the next junction onto the A11.

I'm in the same position as you - I agree with rogerramjet (his earlier post is very helpful) - only you can make the decision - the Garmin is simple to use, basic and does exactly what it says on the "tin" and includes maps for northern france (good for day trips) and Brittany (good for holidays).

The PDA offers a lot more, more flexibility, better mapping, better display, more complicated to set up, takes up more space, useless when the battery runs out (you can put AA's into the Garmin), and you can spend months trying to tweek it - for me the juries still out. The only reason that I'm tempted with the PDA is I may load tom tom for another £135 to give me european maps.

In all honesty I don't think you can go far wrong with the Garmin - it's a brilliant piece of kit........................................but so is the pda.

    Confused - so am I !!!!
  • The garmin is a good deal but its not a sparkling one like the pda one is.Near £100 saving on the pda is a steal plus if you look around you wont find a new standard pocket pc for less than £130 and this one under £130 and comes with sat nav and all the gear

The killer decision for me was how much more pocketable it was compared to my old tomtomgo 300 which use to give no end of trouble trying to hide it in my car

I wasn't quite sure which one to go with and very much in the same boat however I decided to hang out for a wireless pda or mobile phone come pda rather than get this one. I decided to go with the Garmin i3 in the end and although I only bought it yesterday it has been superb and not at all sorry for the purchase - but we are all different ! The Garmin is so easy to use and when they have sorted out the POI loader issue I can upload safety cameras !!

  • many thanks that has saved me going through this massive thread, but still unsure the pda sounds great for someone who's up on all the techie stuff, where as I really just need to get from a - b, so maybe the garmin is for me,

    thanks again

You've summed it up in one - for just going from a to B the Garmin is definately the best - have you got one, as finding one will be the issue.
