Seeing you seam to know about your stuff what do you think about the mio A 201?

Would beg to differ with the quote in your post....apart from it not having wireless or bluetooth it is well within current spec for many PDA's also it has an higher spec than most due to having the built in GPS head...Acer N35...bigger, bulkier and around £100 more from comet (get the N35 lite for £199) Navman unit (not mio clone) around £150 more.

Basically the unit is a very good deal, refurb PDA's without itergrated GPS are regularly over the price for this one.

With relation to the mio A201...it runs windows mobile 2005 and has bluetooth and a slightly better processor..my iPaq 1940 has bluetooth and is an "old" unit.....does mobile 2005 mean it has more functions....I'd assume so...Win XP has more functions than Win 98...but how many peeps take advantage of them all?

This isn't a techie thread - but Mobile 2005 has much much better power management (i.e. siginficantly better battery life) which is a key thing in any mobile device - particularly the more wizardry that is packed inside it.

It's all down to what you want... I want GPS and I want a mobile office, but I don't need them to be combined into one unit and I don't want to compromise on the PDA side of things (screen, wifi, and phone ideally too).

I hated both my QVGA PDA devices. I like the idea of a unit that can update my emails without having to go near a computer. I like the idea of looking up something on the 'net wherever I am - and for it to be quick if there's wifi. And I like using a blackberry-type keyboard over some irritating stylus operated thing, or a micro-calculator type thing like on the MDA 3.

But this new MIO looks like a good spec for the money. And to reiterate what I said in my original post, as a PDA, the Medion is relatively low spec - but you're quite right, the addition of a GPS makes it good value. Just it's not a great PDA.

Regarding what is or isn't a good spec, this review (first review I found when I tapped N35 into Google), seems to agree with me, and also on the Medion which is a rebadged Mio 168.
The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster! :)

  • Hi,

Somerfield in Bonnyrigg still has at least one of the Garmin units left for anyone that is still interested. Also a couple of Speed Camera Detectors and a few cameras left.

    ZHR.

  • Evening all,

having now purchased the Garmin I3 and downloaded the 7600 speed camera type files does anyone know how they actually work as the booklet that comes with the garmin only has 6 pages in English and nothing about how it actually works it's just a basic set up guide so if anyone is using one of these I would like to know. Do the speed cameras show up as your on your jouney automatically or do you have to some how load them on?

(before someone says go and try it near main road I live in a very remote place and nearest large town is 40 miles away.)

any ideas or other tips or advice on how to use this would be great

    many thanks
a please & thank you is all it takes

as you approach a speed camera it will bong and warn you one is coming up and what speed it is, if you exceed the speed limit of the road the camera is sited on the garmin will keep bonging, if you aren't exceeding the speed then it will just have a warning on the screen
  • that's great, thanks for the quick reply, :):):):):)

  • If you want an aluminium case for your PDA - here is the cheapest I have found (cheaper than Ebay by far) - Mio 168 case, fits perfectly.

It seems that there are two types of case that will fit, The one mentioned above does not allow the GPS antenna to be unfolded without removing it from the case, the ones on eBay do.

    Which type is best?

I think I will be going for the blueunplugged one unless anyone can recommend an alternative.
