I would like to use it as an mp3 player with an FM transmitter and play music on my car stero. i would like to do this as well as still running the navigation software. I was wondering if the pda can do this and still be able to give audio instructions for the navigation at the same time as continueing to play mp3's. Does anyone know answer ????
It's a long story, but I ended up with both. Having now tried them both, I can honestly say that if you want a good, accurate, reliable and easy to use SAT NAV then don't even hesitate buying the Garmin - Ok it doesn't have the pose value of something obscuring the windscreen, but it can be tucked away in any corner (I stick it on the quarter-lights of my Alhambra) and works perfectly.
The PDA is good, but takes much longer to get started, longer to find satellites, longer to program and it my case locks up requiring a hard reset. There is another thread for the PDA, so I won't hog this one, but I'd suggest thinking exactly about what you want and then buying the item that does the job - for example why buy a pda for the planner if you use a diary or like me you life's not exciting enough to need one.
A possible bonus with the Garmin is that it includes northern France and Brittany - again a Bonus if you are planning to go accross the Channel.
As for my PDA - I'd like to justify keeping it, but after it locked up I think it's going back and I'll wait for technology to move forward - soon these things will have hard drives etc on-board.0 -

I wouldnt think it could do that but then again im not overly techie so it might? Still if it doesnt you wont be too disappointed as the pda is a cracking piece of kit and knocks the spots off any other satnav for a similar price.0 -
you can do this...voice is a bit jerky when playing mo3s tho0

I havent had any problems with mine and neither has my brother.
It locks on sats within a min from cold and hot its even quicker and programming i find very quick especially as its all touch screen and with the screen being nice and big i dont need to squint like some other satellite navigation units i tried out recently.
Im well chuffed with mine and would recommend it without hesitation.0 -
I had a choice between the Garmin and the PDA and took a chance on the PDA and I'm not dissappointed.
I can use it to read an ebook, play chess, make notes/calculations with a wifi adapter I can use it to go on the internet while I'm sat at the airport..I've even compressed a DVD and my 7 year old can watch a movie in the car when we don't need the SATNAV.
As far as the SATNAV goes never had any problems once it was set up even TOMTOM works (it says it doesn't receive satelites but it directs me fine)
If all you want is a SATNAV yes the GArmin is a great buy but for the extra £30 you get so much more.0 -

PS: I do have an extra one at the moment and currently negotiating on the price with a friend who didn't want to waste half a day to go there with me!0
