Hi
Just tell the shop assistant that sells you it that you've heard that the Garmin sometimes cannot receive signals behind certain windscreens (such as heated ones). Tell them that you will not get a chance to check the Garmin till next week and can you bring it back if it doesn't work properly.
Also, I believe Somerfield has a 14 day return policy anyway, although you'll have to check as this is a sale item. If you don't like it (which I doubt) you will easily be able to sell it on Ebay for cost price at the very least!
I bought one and they are great. Very compact, so no problems popping it in your pocket when you leave the vehicle. The small screen is very easy to read and understand (especially if you have ever navigated round maps on computer games such as Grand theft auto or such like!). They take two AA batteries or you can plug them into your cigarette lighter.
Go straight to Pocketgps.com and download the January 2006 Garmin 'speed camera database', quickly as this is the last month that it is free!

Here's a link for new users! How to install the POI loader and extras. Just make sure you read through the whole thread first before proceeding with the instructions as any updated or changed information comes further down. All Garmin buyers from Somerfield or Kwiksave should have the Version 8 Maps installed ( you can check this by looking at the bottom of the box near to the barcode, you should see a tiny v8 next to it).

Ellesmere Port had 5 last Friday after I bought one at £99. It works great but I failed when I tried to download from the website. They asked for a code number (said it was on a separate piece of paper in the box but it was not. Nor was there one in the other boxes in the shop.). Am I missing something else you you other guys have got to access the download?0

Hi,
Perhaps Im asking for too much but is it possible to use the PDA as a hand held GPS for hiking.
Is there software to emulate a hand held GPS with the snail trails and compass features.

What are you downloading? The i3 should work straight out of the box without downloading anything, unless you want to put the speed cam database on.0 -

Popped the speedcam database on there while I was at it!
I think you need the 8-digit serial number to buy more maps but certainly didn't ask for it for the updates or anything like that. I did have to use the older version of the POI loader to put the speedcam database on though - just have to try it now!The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!
