italiastar wrote:my local Somerfield has them for £149 - they say they can't price match other stores
I think someone said on this thread that the units scan at £99.99 at all stores, even though the price on the shelf may be £149.99 and the staff may not be aware that they're now cheaper?.0 -

having picked up the pda quite pleased till now
can some one point me in the correct direction for buying a case, screen covers
and also cheapest way to get tom tom 5 software
can additional software be downloaded eg power point
PDA case should be in the white box which the cds are in, if not look on ebay, loads of goodies there, just search mio 168.
Tomtom can be purchased fro ebay sellers as well, however, watch out as some sellers are selling dodgy copies. PocketGPS world has been mentioned a few times already, http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/ it maybe worth checking there for sellers of tomtom and for other info.
As a side point, I use Tomtom myself and picked up the pda for my sister...tried the medion software and apart from it not having full postcode search, I'd say it was at a par with tomtom or even have the edge over it.Welcome, rogerramjet.

Over to the pda side of my brain - hopefully I'm not confusing you guys as much as myself. Is this what you need for Tom Tom -
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php?xProd=147&xSec=8
or is this just an add-on for people who already have tom tom?
Is there a european bolt-on for the medion software and how much does that cost - I only want a map of France and Northern Italy for my hols.
Dare I ask what is the diffrence with the "full postcode search"
Apologies, but I'm clearly out of mt depth here
oh well, I can only learn :j0 -
How easy is it to load the speed camera database onto the Micromaxx PDA?
If you plan your journey do the camera's just pop up on the display for the camera's that will be on your journey?
Anyone know if there are any downloads for voices for the PDA so you can get directions from another voice?
Cheers0 -

Looks like the software is an upgrade notice the **Important:
This Map data is an upgrade for the TomTom GO Classic/300/500 and TomTom RIDER, TomTom ONE and TomTom Navigator 5 products to provide Western European coverage** But your on the right track
https://www.medionshop.co.uk....look for accessories then GPS Navigation then VERSION 5 NAVIGON MAPS.
Full postcode search means you can put in the full postcode and then just the house number to navigate, the medion does the first 4/5 digets, however, the street search is much better than version 3 tomtom (they are on 5 now)
At the end of the day, if you don't ask you'll never know
everyone has to start somewhereWelcome, rogerramjet.

As far as I can make out you need Navigator 5.1 which for some reason Medion are not making available as a download!!
Some guys have taken the German version and added English files but that is beyond my technical comptance.
Don't know about voices but I thought hers was fine0 -

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php - info there
It loads it as a POI (Point Of Interest) you just set it up for show on route or in vicinity.
Voices seem to be readily available for tomtom...not sure on the medion software...again try http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ for infoWelcome, rogerramjet.

blackrat62 wrote:You'd need to have placed the unit VERY badly to get fined. It is usualy easy to position these devices so that they don't appear above the bonnet line and neither is very big (espcially the Garmin).
If someone did get done I would suggest they sited it in the middle of the screen (why would you do that?) and/or met a 'hard-line' officer or were sufficiently rude that they prompted being done for a minor offence that would normally warrant a warning.
Lets not panic about sensibly placed SatNav systems - there are tens of thousands living happily on dashboards without problems.

Methinks, I'm going to stick to a good mapand keep it out of sight in case someone nicks it.
