Picked up a Garmin and one of PDA ones at Shepton Mallet today, the girl said they have 'loads' in stock. Best to ask though because they only have 1 each of the empty boxes on the shelf and she didn't put them back after i took it to the counter.

    Hi

I updated my Garmin following caverncity suggestion e.g.

update your Garmin to show you speed cameras, I have done it myself, very easy. go to

    http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/garmi...eed-cameras.php

    and here to update firmware

    http://www.garmin.com/support/index.jsp

However, how do I know the cameras are on there it did say something about 7000 points of interest, but how can I check without driving up to them?

Hi, Did your PC immediately see the Garmin when you connected it - sec=veral machines I connect it to couldn't see it and when I tried to load the disk it failed because it couldn't see the unit. I looked on the garmin site, but it just told me how to manually set up the device, which also failed - that's why I thought the unit was fault - shame because I really liked it - swapped it for the pda because they had no garmins left, but this looks more complicated - I liked the Garmin, because it appeared to do everything straight out of the box - apart from talk to my pc .

Forgot to add that it had already been returned as the unit had obviously been used - I should have gone to speak to the previous owner - he left his address in it!

For example, to see 30mph speed cameras near you, do the following:

Where To? / Food, Hotels, and More / Custom Points / pocketgps_uk_gatso_30 /

i3 will then list the closest 50 cameras to your current location. change "_30" to find cameras in other limits.

To see cameras elsewhere choose a location, postcode etc. then click:
Find Nearby / Food, Hotels, and More... then as above.

    Hope this helps

Old Nelly - That is brilliant thank you, just what I wanted works great!
Will it now also tell me when I approach the cameras or dod I have to set it to do that for me?

e.g. If I navigate from A to B, to I just do that and it will point out cameras or do I need to set cameras on by default and if so how?

Hi italiastar - Yes my pc picked up garmin as soon as I connected with the usb. Mind you first time i did not load the drivers and when I did it was fine.

Does anyone know of any stores near glagow that have the PDA. I tried my local (Hillington) and all they have are the Garmin units

I bought 2 PDA's in Kilbirnie Saturday and they had 5 left and still had some this afternoon.

Mmmmm - I'm confused - when I loaded the disc and ran it, it asked me to connect the Garmin - that's where it went wrong. I presume you loaded the drivers ok from the disc? was the Garmin connected at this point. Also did you have any other instructions apart from the main book? - I ask as mine was obviuosy a return - it even had a piece from the spped camera detector they were selling and some packaging missing as the unit was just loose in the box - attached to the suction bracket - I take it they have more packaging.

It's a shame because I liked it - my local Somerfield has them for £149 - they say they can't price match other stores - they wouldn't even exchange it because of the price diffrence - I didn't buy it locally and got it for £99.

It is my understanding that you can set the distance from the camera when the warning will start. I seem to remember that you get a "boing" then a banner at the top of the screen for the duration of the alert.

I have read that the actual position of the camera will only be shown if you are over the limit, I think that the i3 will also give an alarm if you are over the limit but haven't tried it!

I did have an inst booklet but only about 2-3 pages were english - enough to get me going.

I think I put the disk in first and ran it and then I think it asked me to connect the unit at one point. I had exactly the same problem as you when I tried to run the garmin with the usb cable without loading the drivers FIRST. It would not recognise it.

What was happening was that it said it could not find a unit and wasonly looking at com ports 1-3 and usb was showing blank, when I loaded the drivers, the usb was automatically populated and it found it straight away.
