I don't have anything to say about your particular quote as I'm not aware of the current market.

I want to warn people about the so called 'show home' discount. It doesn't exist. I used to work for a double glazing company well over 10 yrs ago now but we used to offer a 'substantial discount in exchange for a few photos for our upcoming catalogue.' It's bull! We wwould just quote a high price then 'apply the discount' to bring it down to our usual price.

If I were looking at double glazing personally i would be checking small local businesses as well as the 'big boys'

  • Can I clarify a point raised by The_Economist.

Fensa is only one of five authorised registration bodies. The law says any installer in England and Wales must use one of them but Registration doesn't necessarily give you any extra consumer protection. However, one of those five is the 'Assure' scheme from Network VEKA. It is only available to that organisation's members so you are automatically covered by all its strict rules plus its own guarantee.

I'll be truthful and declare an interest; I work with Network VEKA but you really should take a look at the website and look up your local member.
    - And don't ever be swayed by counting the badges on the back of an installer's van. Some mean everything - others mean nothing.
  • Just to clarify the reply by lifeisbutadream to daisyjulia:

Any company that registers new windows under Building Regulations - and they all should by law - ought to offer an Insurance Backed Guarantee, whether they are FMB or not, but can charge you for it...and usually will.

However, every Network VEKA member company must offer you the organisation's own IBG at no additional cost. It also makes sure they get the job right in the first place so very very few actually need to claim on their guarantee.

And yes, I'll declare once again I work with Network VEKA.

Speaking of which...another writer was asking about composite doors but I couldn't find the post when I looked again today. It's worth mentioning that the Network VEKA website has a gizmo that lets you design your own composite door online so you can see in advance what it will look like.

I'm new to this blog so not allowed to post links but I'm sure you can find it.

This is the fourth post you have done on the same subject. Your spamming is getting tedious now.

Factual replies on relevant aspects of a complex subject. Always openly declaring my commercial interest - and using my real name and location.

    You should try it.
