Scotslass1978 Your best bet if it hasnt done so already is to have the loft insulated, cavity walls done and draft proofing. This wont cost you very much in some cases its free.

Thanks for replying to me! I dont have an attic so dont know if i can have the loft insulated. I will check out insulation for the walls though.
Thank you.x0 -
did the guy stay wiyth OP for dinner? i would just ask for prices and boot them out.
!!!!!!, 5 hours approx 2 calls a day = 10 a week, with 10 percent success rate = 2 x £500 (guess commission, as previous posts).
thats £52k a year, just for sellng the stuff- no even making / installing it!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
These salesman often start of with low pressure sales tactics, then they come up with well if you sign today we will knock x amount off etc (prices are artificial high)
Get a local firm, and dont forget make sure you pay by credit to be covered even if you had the cash you best in these uncertain times. I would also ask whether the guarantee is protected by some insurnace policy so that if company goes bust you have soem comeback
I would defuntaelys ee about your walls though, having insulation is the best thing to have and it costs so little about £250-£400 for walls at most0 -
I will defo see about the insulation...anything to cut the bills bown a bit and to be honest if i dont need to get double glazing fitted to solve the problem then it would be much better. First house and all these bills...every penny counts now! x0

I know what you mean about bills I monitor mine all the time trying to cut down
Also you could try switching using one of those energy comparison web sites see Martins articles http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/0 -
I have just changed suppliers and i am waiting on my first bill from them...lets hope its not triple figures again this month! x0

Round here you get ads saying "Don't deal with salesmen deal with the directors."
I'm having a fair bit of work done to the house in the next couple of months which includes double glazing the front. One company came round (a director and NOT a 'salesman') and gave me a price which was valid that afternoon only and if I didn't take it then and called back later it would go up by £350 - and they wouldn't be able to reduce it. Needless to say I didn't succumb to this high pressure.
They called back a few days ago to chase it up and I said we were going with another company. They said if you want to haggle we'll be happy to do a deal. I reminded them that their prices were higher and non-negotiable.0 -
wow we've had 2 quotes from local companies and both stayed about 20 minutes. Try to get a reccomendation from a friend or neighbour who has been pleased with their work. To the OP i think you have been majorly overcharged.
