  • I go one step further with shampoo. Instead of washing/rinsing twice, or even once, I don't wash rinse at all! I also wear the same underwear all week to save on washing. You can save a mint cutting back on most cleaning products! :j

Another benefit of this approach is savings on tea/coffee/biscuits as not many people come to visit.....
  • if im using a boxed hair dye with the bottle of liquid and the tube of cream , i empty half of each into a glass bowl and mix with a spoon then apply as normal to my hair as 9 outa 10 times im just retouching the roots

i then put the lids back on the containers and back in the box and theyre good to go for another hair dyeing session they dont go off so i get two hair dyes from one box

mind you ive now been brave and tried poundland hair dye and it is fantastic , not a great smell but colours grey 100 percent beautifully and the deep reddish brown shade came out a lovely glossy rich brown like a conker , no nasty red -in- your- face at all and none of that dreaded orange strip down by the roots which other hair dyes using red produces, all in all the best hair dye ive ever used really

I have really thick long hair and don't tend to wash it more than once or twice a week as it is a pain to dry. If it is a little on the greasy side then I found that I needed 2 or even 3 shampoos to get the lather through the entire length of the hair.
    .

same here, long thick, usually 2 shampoos does the trick. I been washing it in a basin for years cos dont have shower, given the length you'd wonder how effective this was but I got it pretty sussed.

They are designed for single use only, because carcinogenic chemicals start to leach out of the plastic. Bit like wrapping soft foods in clingfilm.

So does that mean the water originally in them is full of carcinogens?? We all know it isn't fresh - that water has been in that bottle for months, if not years!!

Buying bottled water is the biggest waste of money I can possibly think of
  • I shampoo my hair twice. The first shampoo I use a cheapy to get rid of the majority of grease, then for the second shampoo I use the expensive stuff. That way the expensive shampoo will last twice as long. A hairdresser once told me that you only need shampoo in your hand the size of a ten pence piece to wash your hair. I also only ever buy the good quality bogof products. :D
  • :j I heard on a major radio station that you don't need shampoo to keep your hair clean as hair is self cleaning (after a month). It just needs washing regularly in clean water. I stopped using shampoo a year ago not only have I saved a load of money, but after being bald for 25 years, my hair has now slowly started to grow back. Let's hear from the shampoo companies explaining that one!!

I'm sorry, but as a scientist, I have to tell you that is absolute nonsense. Think about it. The water in the bottle originally could be in there for months or even years before you drink it - and that is supposed to be safe. If you refill it from the tap, it is likely to be in there for hours or days - far less time for chemicals to leach out. This is a myth propagated by the bottled water industry!

What did we and our parents do before 'disposable' bottle of water? We filled up reusable containers!

Anyone concerned about bacterial build up should invest in a bottle of Milton sterilising fluid (the stuff for sterilising baby's bottles). Just follow the direction on the back to dilute a very small amout and submerge the bottles for a short time. I do this about once a fortnight with the fruit shoot bottles that I refill with tap water every day for my children. So far my bottle of Milton has lasted over 2 years and none of my children has become ill. To be honest it is only the sports cap bit that is likely to become contaminated anyway.
  • Agreed about 'dry-clean only' instructions; dry-cleaning uses disgusting chemicals, risking yr health & the environment. I buy my outer clothes 2nd-hand, in the 20p - £2 price range, & in 20 years, only 1 item has shrunk too small for me after cool hand-washing - I gave it to a smaller friend!

Though of course you can get away with a much smaller quantity for the second wash.

Ignore all 'use by' and 'sell by' dates. Use your eyes, nose and commonsense.
Compared with peope like me, brought up in the War years, people nowadays are far too 'exquisite' - and pay a high price in the shops for it.
