That won't always show you a true picture, as some data charges are stored up throughout the day and automatically downloaded at midnight, so will show on a bill as 00:00:00

I am still in Dispute with O2 over this matter The agency have been contacting me even though th matter with O2 has not been resolved I ask O2 for proof of the internet charges I.E dates, times & web pages viewed and they were only able to give me the Info for 1 day even though the Bill was for 2 months, they then said as a gesture of good will they would reduce the bill in half. I have already paid an amount I believe to be true (an average monthly bill ) but they are not happy with this. I now think they are trying to blag it cos I have also asked for the results of the investigation they carried out and they said there is no actual results they can send to me. I feel they have no proof to take this matter further & am currently Seeking advice from the OFT.
Thanks every1 for your response & your help will let you know how it pans out !!0 -
The agency is contacting you because O2 has passed the debt onto them. O2 no longer have anything to do with you, your complaint is now with the debt collectors. Were you using the internet while abroad? Were you using your mobile to connect your computer to the internet? Cancelling the DD was about the worst move as your credit file will be destroyed and you'll find it very hard to get credit again in the future.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

If it aint paid Debt Recovery are gonna tear your credit rating up.0

Surely you have some idea of your internet usage during the period they have billed you for? If you know it was small then you need to dispute this further. If not, then you're going to have to pay something higher towards it-were you going over your monthly allowance, if so what rate do they charge the excess at?-it's often at a much higher rate per GB. They have already moved a long way by halving your excess (£115), so how much are you now disputing?
It's up to you, but is it really worth trashing your credit rating for 6 years for this amount? Credit is going to be much harder to come by for the next few years for even people with an A1 rating, and with this on your file it could cost you a lot more than that in the long runNo free lunch, and no free laptop

I find the advice in this thread bizarre. O2 have apparently issued a large bill but when challenged have not been able to substantiate it. In this case the OP cannot understand why the charges are so high and I believe that there is a valid dispute. The OP is entitled to refuse to pay the bill until it has been substantiated. Indeed, they have been very reasonable in paying an amount equal to their usual charges.
I suggest the correct response to the debt collector is to write and state that the account is in dispute and they should cease collection activities until such time as they or O2 can provide the requested clarification. Have you raised a formal complaint with O2 and have they issued a final response letter?0 -
I had a similar issue, I phoned up o2 and they were able to tell me days when my internet usage was high.
It sounds to me like you have used too much internet and don't fancy paying for it.0 -
I agree with macman, Would it really be worth ruining your credit rating over not paying it?0

Seems quite wrong to me that mobile phone companies are effectively 'blackmailing' customers by implicitly threatening to damage their credit rating.
When a bill is disputed the debt should not be passed to a collection agency until the matter is thoroughly investigated and the customer sent written details of how the bill was calculated.
I had a similar dispute with T-mobile and they were unable to provide me with full details of how the bill had been calculated but nevertheless passed the debt to a collection agency. Eventually I got to speak to the 'right' guy in T-mobile and it turned out that they owed ME 8p !!0
