Feeling pretty low today. I got the results for one of my essays last night and I only got a D. I was sure I had done better than that. At least it's a pass I suppose but I'm gutted. I knew I'd have problems with the essay as it was based on 2 weeks in nursery back in November. I only got one week due to my nursery being closed and I can't say the support I got from the uni was great. Sod's law that this is the first essay that counts towards my final mark. Just can't believe I've done so badly.

It seems like ages since I've been on here. Placement has finally finished and I was back at uni this week. I went to see my tutor about my essay but it looks like I'm stuck with the mark they've given me. They are saying that I should have asked for an extension and done extra time in the nursery before completing the essay. All well and good but they should have told me that at the time.
I am disputing something else aboout my essay though. The marker has said that I've not made any reference to lectures when there are 2 clearly marked references. My tutor is going to see the marker about that.
I'm just so disappointed at the way nthe whole thing has gone. It's been one thing after another and I'm tired of fighting for it all. Now I need to try to put it behind me and get on with the rest of the course but it's difficult as I know I now need to work even harder to get a decent final degree.
I've finally filled in my hardship fund form and sent it in the other day so hopefully I'll hear back soon. Still no luck on the job front but I keep looking.
My anti-depressants have kicked in now so things don't seem quite so hopeless anymore. Relief!!

  • Good to hear the anti ds are kicking in. They are a blessing when the world seems against you. Things may be tough but think positive that you are at least trying re: mark and charges.

Good luck hope you luck improves xx

  • aww thats fab news....re the course sometimes accepting a pass is enough rather than needing an A. Hows the hound doing?

  • Just thinking about the coursework I think ISOM is right about the pass. The course I just passed started off badly with a pass for the first of three sets of course work. This was upsetting but a kick up the bum to make sure the rest was better. I ended up with a credit. By all means challenge the references just dont be downhearted if it doesnt pay off.

Jeez, it's been a while so here's an update. I've had no joy whatsoever with my uni pass mark and I've now accepted that a pass is ok and that I don't need to get a fantastic pass all the time.
After applying to the hardship fund at uni they came back to me and said I've been awarded £1000 (I was really surprised and grateful to get so much) but that they don't want to just put it into my current account as it will get swallowed up by my overdraft. I have an appointment with the Money Advice Team at Trading standards tomorrow so after that I've to go back to the uni and say where the money should go.
I'm absolutely dreading the appointment tomorrow though as I still have no job so don't think there is a great deal they can do to help me. Also, the thought of owning up to my hideous and stupid debts to a real person sitting in front of me is not the best. I just feel like such a fool.

  • Thanks for update. Good news on the £1000. Im sure if they are an advice team they have come across people in your situation and probably worse before so dont feel bad. Just think how many people are on the DFW board you are by no means alone.
