After applying to the hardship fund at uni they came back to me and said I've been awarded £1000 (I was really surprised and grateful to get so much) but that they don't want to just put it into my current account as it will get swallowed up by my overdraft.

Hi get yourself a new bank account not related to any of your creditors, probably a basic one and pay the money in there. That way you can live off it and transfer money into the other accout as needed.

Thanks Ras, I hadn't thought of doing that but I have already opened a basic bank account so I could use that. And I have nothing coming in or out of it so it would be totally separate.

That was horrible. I've just been to see the debta advisor and I know it's all for the best but owning up to what a mess I'm in was really horrible.

Because I get my last student loan income at the beginning of next month and I don't yet have a job for the summer, it's been recommended that we try to get an informal arrangement set up with my creditors for the time being then go for the DAS once I'm working. The scariest thing is that he's told me to just make token payments to my creditors so that I default. I guess the next couple of months will be the hardest, with default letters and charges coming through, but I know it's the way I have to go.
He has told me to put the money from the hardship fund into my new account and to hang on to it just now as I don't know what will be happening with money over the summer.
Much as it has been nasty to deal with I do feel a little relieved that I'm finally getting on with it and that someone is there to guide me through.

I've still got another year to go at uni but I console myself by thinking that in August next year I will have my own class and be earning some proper money (that I wont get to spend).
Honey is doing well. I let her off the lead once in a while but only when I don't have anywhere I need to be as she is still very stubborn and does only what she wants. Other than that though she is fabulous. I'd really hate to be without her now because, although she can be a bit aloof sometimes, she's very obviously my dog and is always over the moon to see me. Everyone should have someone who loves them unconditionally.

I'm enjoying my time off uni and have spent the last few hours up to my elbows in dirt in the back garden. A free hobby!!!!
