She would probably make them wait a maximum of a few minutes while finding out from the member of staff what happened. I doubt VERY much that OP had to wait more than a few minutes; half an hour is clearly an exaggeration.

Besides, after 5 minutes of waiting, I'd be standing at customer services reminding the person that I was waiting for the manager, not standing whingeing about it to myself for half an hour!

this is also a health and safety issue, they should have risk assesments, what if the can had fallen onto a childs head. They should close the isle or cordon off a safe area for the employee to work in.
Yes, I think ther police should immediately arrest the staff at the branch, charge them all with gross misconduct and let them spend Christmas in the Gaol. that will prevent anything like this ever happening again.

It's amazing how people can't deal with things like this themselves.

Throwing the age of your Dad in to the mix didn't help you whatsoever. Did you want some sympathy or something?

You have an entitlement to have the clothes professionally cleaned or replaced...deal with it instead of getting someone else to do it for you.
  • Too many trolls on this thread. The OP hasn't claimed for compensation fro hurt feelings or anything, but has reasonably asked for what is fair. No point trolling here guys.

The OP didn't go shopping with the intention of getting covered in paint. Wilko's were at fault - and they didn't do everything they could have done. The fact they chose to replenish during the working day is their choice. It won't be long before an OAP gets hit by a pallet truck in a shop and dies. Overreaction - certainly. Likely - Yes.

Perhaps the OP's phrasing isn't the best, but let me just remind everyone, the OP was out shopping. It was a human error by the member of staff, but what if a small child had been under that tin of paint when it fell? We'd be talking legal cases, let alone small change for the cost of replacement clothing.

Exactly. A human error, resulting in damage, which they'll pay for. Comparing it to another highly emotive example is erroneous - I mean, god, what happens if this site came to life and ate your mum? IT COULD HAPPEN. MY GOD, CLOSE DOWN THE SITE.

A forum about home decorating dropped a big tin of paint on my son and then went on to eat my mum and my auntie Brenda.

    Does happen.

Clearly some sort of warning signs are needed.
