Anyhow, had a call from MBNA security this morning about an "unusual transaction" of £1 to a telecommunications fim in London. Didn't recognise it, so hung on to speak to a real person.
Apparently, it was Carphone warehouse. They make a test purchase of £1 to check the card's OK, then take the balance. Apparently, fraudsters also do this as well, to test a card number before going on a massive spending spree once it's OKed.
Thought I'd post here so others don't start panicking about cloning etc if it happens to them.
Hats off to the security staff at MBNA for spotting it & checking when they must have many millions of transactions going through at this time of year!
This has also happened to me this morning - my M&S Money card was rejected twice so used my Tesco Credit Card - they have just called to query the transaction. This really does restore your faith in the banking systems!!:T0 -

Made me laugh and at this time of year that is good. Glad to see that there are people like me out there. To be fair though he should check his own pockets.
Three is the only network that is locked at Carphone warehouse.0 -

You can trade in an old phone for £10 (online or instore) so with cashback of £5 via Topcashback etc they are paying you to buy the phone.
(cashback: £5. Trade-in: £10. =£15 - less cost of phone and credit (£12.88) = £2.12 in your favour.)"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
