What time do you have Christmas Dinner?
Comments
-
We have it around 1.00 pm. But that's only because we have elderly parents coming and my dad tends to fall asleep late afternoon so we have to get Christmas dinner inside him before he nods off .... !
But we only get a small-ish turkey so it doesn't need to go in too early ...
Just do what fits around your family and friends (and your need for sleep) best!0 -
We aim to be sitting down by about 1.30-2pm. Presents first thing, breakfast (cooked) at around 9am, the kids go to the Christmas swim at noon, back around 1.30, dinner asap after that. We usually go for a walk after dinner for an hour, then slob around for the rest of the day... I love it!
:xmassign:I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

Usually aim for 1pm. My mum and I do most of the prep the day before, to make it as easy as possible on the day. We used to go out visiting which made it a bit harder but we aren't going anywhere this year. Eating at that time gives people a chance to have a nap before the good telly starts!0

We normally eat around 2 - 2:30. I'm aiming for 1:30 this year, as otherwise everyones not hungry enough by 6 ish to eat the mass of food I prepare for tea time, lol. I always prepare as much as poss the day before.
We have pretty much always had christmas with my parents - I've only not been with them for 3 chrissy days in my whole 36 years, lol. Last year they did'nt come and everyone missed them (including OH). I'm soooooo excited - more than the kids.
Merry Christmas everyone x

Normally we have canapes and champagne at midday when my parents, DB and DSIL arrive laden down with yet more pressies! Lunch is then at 2:30ish (we don't have a starter as we've had the canapes), made easier by the fact that I always cook my turkey on Christmas eve and re-heat on Christmas day. I also prepare all the veg on Christmas eve as well.
After the main course we all go for a walk round the block, except DH who stays behind and loads the dishwasher and clears the decks in preparation for Christmas pudding, mince pies, brandy butter, sloppy rum sauce, custard and cream:eek: . Surprisingly we then all collapse in a food induced heap to watch the TV

I'm guessing it'll be about 4pm. OH and I are driving from Bristol to Manchester on Christmas day, so most of the preparation should have been done by my dad and brothers before our arrival. I'll also be 28+ weeks pregnant so the amount of toilet stops may make us late

I have decided to do dinner earlier than planned now, thanks to a lot of you on here! Last year no one had room for cheese and port etc in the evening when we ate dinner at 4.30pm so I'm thinking maybe 3pm and then at least I'll have time to feed the kids something else before bed if they don't eat any Christmas dinner (toddlers!)
But most of all, I want to be "off duty" asap!June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

We will start at 3pm
Have starters
Main course
Pudding (xmas or trifle).
Cheese board
Coffee & mints
By then time we get to the coffee it will be after 5pm.
Then we settle down in front of the TV & later on have cold turkey sandwiches on white bread with lots of salt & warmed mince pies & tins of chocolate sweets.0 -
We stay at a hotel for Christmas so we have lunch booked for 12:30 as there are afternoon activities that we want to do so lunch has to be over quickly! I would rather have lunch at my normal time then have a separate tea, but maybe thats just because i like my food and want 2 meals!0

Whenever it's ready

We always cook our meat on Christmas eve and prep the veg...
We always have a full cooked brekkie on Christmas day (we only have it once a year so really look forward to it) so dinner fits in when we're hungry - as soon as the kids start asking when dinner is, the oven goes on....that way it only takes as long as the roast potatoes take to cook.
Although last year we put the bits in the oven then got so engrossed in playing with the Wii that we forgot to put anything else going...ooops."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0
