And, in even better news, I've heard my baby's heartbeat! :D Picked my doppler up from the Post Office at lunchtime and tried it out as soon as I got home. Can anyone remember what that "rule" is about if it's over a certain number of BPM it is/isn't a girl, or whatever it was? :)

elle where did you buy your doppler from i cant decide if i want one or not

as for heart rate i think that a girly heartbeat is over 140 but dont quote me on that

  • I have a question:

I had the Downs syndrome blood test done last wednesday and the midwife said they would ring ASAP if there was a problem. I have assumed that no news is good news. I have heard you get confirmation of your results in the post, my question is: how long did you wait for the results to come through? Or should I ring the midwife and find out - I don't want to bother Midwife if the results are on the way (She has been off sick recently and is coming up for retirement very soon, so I have been under various midwives who are covering her patients, so finding someone who actually has the results could be difficult:rolleyes: )

    TIA

Elle - I asked my MW about the heartrate thing. Her reply was that generally you can't tell gender from the heartbeat rate until much later in pg, and it's not an accurate way to sex a baby. However, they won't tell you the heartbeat rate in our NHS area, like they don't tell you the gender at the scan as policy, so I do wonder if that's her way of fobbing me off as it could get her into trouble!:p

princess - I think that it was 150 and above was a girl and below was a boy? But can't remember where I read that:rolleyes:

Molly - My MW only rings if there is a problem. Our results were presented to us by way of letter 10 days to 2 wks after the tests and all it said was that we were low risk and no further tests were necessary. I know some people get a ratio figure, but in our area you don't.

    Hi Molly,

With all my blood tests since being pregnant (and including the Downs testing), I was told if you hear nothing, then all is fine. I have never had written confirmation of my readings for the Downs screening, MW just went through them with me at my next appointment.

I have recently had the glucose test, no news from the hopsital, so expect all was okay and I will just check with the MW when i see her on Monday.

    okay ladies,

how many of you have bought the padded baby changing mats. any recommendations at reasonable prices? silly question perhaps, but would like to avoid paying the £20 for some.

not sure if i would need it, but a friend of mine said she used her's to death with her children.
