Hi all, I'm just back in from Christmas shopping - usually I'm still in bed at this time on a weekend! Felt really really ill when I went to bed last night - couldn't even lie on my side it was making me feel so sick. Felt a bit green when I woke up this morning, and now my nose is running so I'm dreading it turning into more! :(

On the bright side, I've got a fair bit more shopping done, including making a start on OH's presents including a book in a cheap bookstore which has pop-out cardboard models of Wall-E characters to make. It was only £2 but will keep him out of mischief for ten mins :D

I went to Mothercare as I had the £5 off when you spend £20 voucher from the Daily Mail the other day (it's still valid until Tues 16th if you've got one languishing in the recycle bin!). I got accosted by the store manager but she was ever so nice and helped me with choosing two new bras. She also told me about their store card and you get lots of vouchers with it so I signed up (don't worry, I know it's 24.9% interest so I'll clear it every month!). The vouchers they have instore now run out on 31st Dec so she said use what i want now then take the rest back in the new year and swap for a new set :D

Elle you've just reminded me I ment to tell you all about the mothercard,
My advice (allbeit a bit late for you:o) is only sign up for it when you do a big spend - provided you still get 10% off for signing up! the offers/vouchers they send are a bit rubbish I've only ever used 1 voucher which was 25% off but if your on the email list they send the same vouchers on that about a week after the card one comes in the post.
Once baby is here you don't spend much in mothercare as everything is cheaper elsewhere its only really furniture and mat clothes that I bought there

    Hi Everyone,

Hope everythings going well for everyone and you're all looking forward to Xmas. It'll be my 1st alcohol free Xmas in a long long time which is going to be really wierd.

I only found out I was pregnant 03/12. I filled in the form at the GP for the midwife to contact me but she hasn't called yet. How long do they usually take before they call?

If it was me I'd chase them up, at our surgery I just booked an appointment with the midwife through reception the same as any other type of app, the receptionist gave me mat notes to fill in and some wee pots to fill but I know that my doc's are much more forward thinking than lots of others

My doctor said to go to reception to make an appointment with the MW. I did, and they gave me a form to fill out. They said the midwife would pick up my details about a week later but it'll be 2 weeks on Wednesday and I haven't heard anything. I'll call them Monday and see if I can find anything out. I'm so impatient and excited I was it underway. It's my 1st baby and we conceived much easier than I expected (I have PCOS). I have no idea how far along I am either. Feel a bit left in the lurch really.

my best friend has a daughter with a heart problem so was very worried about her 2nd preg and her doctors were rubbish with how they refer you to the MW they did it in a similar way to yours and when my friend had chased them loads and was 10 wks so obviously worried about sorting a scan she called the midwives direct and they told her that her gp surgery were known for being rubbish and that they hadn't even sent the referral through let alone informed them that she would need detailed heart scan!
I think its appalling how some preg ladies get treated especially when its your first and your clueless as to what is supposed to happen and what you can n can't do

Jvic - You're probably right to give them a ring on Monday and just double check on that. They may be harder to reach over Christmas/New Years, so you'll want to touch base with the midwife soon, I would think.

I'll definately be on the phone Monday. If I don't hear anything by New year I could be 9 weeks along or even more. I just feel like the only support I have is here and my boyfriend. I haven't told anyone (given that it's so early) and haven't even been able to tell my mum yet (she lives 30 miles away and I don't want to do it on the phone)

Reason I'm quite is because I'm desperately trying to clean the kitchen - who'd have thought that a whole bottle of green food colouring would cause such a huge and luminous stain on the side! Clumsy feelie.
