  • Just wanted to say I have read the whole 18 pages (sick day from work!) of your thread and have really enjoyed it. I too can be really frugal and disciplined and then something snaps and I splurge on my CC. One of them my mum has and the other I really need to take out of my purse so its only available for a planned splurge.
Anyhow I think that so long as you, or I, are good 80% of the time and can manage an emergency fund then we should be allowed that splurge so long as its occasional.
Keep up the good work-I'll be subscribing if I can work out how to do it.

Could the oven have been too hot?

I asked my domestic goddess colleague about the buns and she thought I must have just had a very rubbish recipe! She gave me a useful tip: "I always use 4 by 4 by 4 by 2". 4oz of flour, 4oz of margerine, 4oz of sugar and two eggs". God, even I should be able to remember that!

Lost 2.5lbs at WW last night, so that's my first stone gone!!! I've achieved my target which was to lose a stone by Xmas. I've done it in nine weeks. I've still got another at least two stone to go, preferably three but hey ho....I'm fitting into lots more of my old stuff now, and am just a shade away from fitting into a large size 14 (on the bottom half)

We had one of the joints of pork for tea on Sunday (I'd cut it into three joints) and four of us had loads on Sunday but there was still enough leftover for two of us to have it last night! The kids loved it too. I'm making Lasagna tonight with 800g of mince, so we'll probably be eating that for tea for days as well LOL. Dh is out for his tea tomorrow and I don't mind eating the same a couple of days in a row...

That's all my news for now. I can't wait to get my teeth into debt busting when this month and next are over!

    Hello again,
Yes I know that combination but if following a "rubbed in" method, where you rub flour and marg until they look like breadcrumbs, you can use 8oz flour to 4 of fat, then add 4 oz sugar and any fruit you like then 2 eggs beaten with a little milk and bake for an hour. better stop this or you'll get moved to old style! Sorry.

BTW did you ever get that £70 from the friend whose ticket to Take That you bought? I would just ask on the phone or face to face, if you still see her. A friend of mine asked me to pick up the bill in a restaurant after we'd been to the ballet with her and some of her family. I had to ask a good few times before I got the money back for her share! And I paid for the ticket up front!

Checked my bills account today. I had expected to have a fair bit of money left in there however that isn't the case now thanks to idiots not banking cheques until now, and someone at DS2's school getting their acts together and banking a load of cheques all at once. I wouldn't care but I wrote the footy cheques and the Cubs cheques when they went back to school after the October half term, so they've had them for nearly two months!!! (some quick sums show I am just gonna be £3.44 up but hey, at least it's a positive)

Last night's Lasagna went down really well. I've found a recipe to make both the sauces without the need to buy jars in (although they were only 2 for £2) but the home made ones cost considerably less to make than they do to buy so I'm going to have a go at home made sauces next time.

Money spent since last update: £1.40 - breakfust butty this morning, although I went for the cheaper option of cheese on toast but the cheaper option would have been to have nowt at all!

I'm a bit later updating today cos I'm shattered. As soon as I got in from work today I just slumped on the sofa, and before I know it, It's nearly 5pm. I've got a headache and feel sick. Just had some toast to see if that'd make me feel better but it hasn't. Just want to curl up on the sofa and go to sleep

I'm starting to worry about next month's budget AGAIN!!! I've just got £70 left, it's the same amount of days to last through next month, plus I had two lots of child benefit this month as well.

God, I'm a right moaner aren't I? Oh well I have my work's Christmas do to look forward to, tomorrow. Chance to posh up in a nice dress

Last night's tea was Corned Beef Hash, which is one of my favourites. Some Reggae Reggae sauce gave it a nice kick. Took leftover Lasagna for lunch today, so tomorrow will be leftover Corned Beef Hash

But on the bright side you still have money left and it is almost payday. That in itself is an achievement. You're being far far too hard on yourself! If your only treat was cheese on toast then its hardly going to break the bank unless you're planning to do it everyday and then you'll end up giving yourself a metaphorical slap on the wrists anyway.

    Enjoy your party tonight.

As you've dicovered your inner Nigella perhaps it's time for a basic cookbook for hm sauces etc which as you say are sooooo much cheaper. I'd recommend Delias first cook book, D' Smith's Cookery Course is it, which although published about 20 years ago has everything basic plus a bit more so is very good value, (rather than recent books with more pics than recipes which are full of fashionable, now stuff so rather expensive on a per recipe level). You can also pick it up second hand easily.
