Blu-ray beware

Leave your coat right where it is, CoveredInBees.
I think you're absolutely right. :T
Far too much "generalizing" (sic) goes on in these threads; it renders them unreliable.
Yours, however, was a particularly pernicious one. Why would someone who cannot obtain a broadband connection for geographical or technical reasons not want to "(watch) a lot of films and buys dvds/blu ray etc" (sic) ?
If anything, I would have thought that anyone who couldn't obtain a broadband signal would be more likely to want to watch DVDs and Blu-Ray discs, instead. Not least because they could have them delivered, even for rental, by mail if they live somewhere remote.
Regardless of who blu ray and broadband is aimed at the figures associated with blu ray are extremely disappointing and the figures for downloadable content are extremely good.
Personally I see this as an indicator of future trends.
Obviously no one can know this for sure so why not hold off criticising my generalisations when my point was really something else.
ha ha I couldnt really care less what happens but as the first poster said its a decision id hold off on until some form of trend is noticeable otherwise like hd-dvd people may splash a fair bit of cash on something that will soon be outdated.0 -

Personally I see this as an indicator of future trends.
Movie downloads from places like iTunes are falling, and Blu Ray sales are increasing. Big new releases often sell quite a high proportion as Blu Ray disks.
During the "format wars" only 2 or 3 percent of sales were on the HD formats, but now that Blu Ray has "won", over 12 percent of the sales of Hitman and 10 percent of the sales of No country for Old Men were on Blu Ray. Compare this to the biggest selling HD-DVD title Transformers, which only accounted for 4 percent of total sales of the film. Iron Man has sold more than 500,000 copies on Blu Ray.
Don't forget, Blu Ray has only been around for just over two years. In that time, it has achieved a remarkable proliferation in the marketplace, certainly much more than DVD (which has been around for over 10 years) did after two years.
It took four years after the introduction of CDs for the first album to sell 1,000,000 copies on the format (Dire Strait's Brothers in Arms), and I have no doubt we'll see a Blu Ray disk achieve sales of 1,000,000 copies within the next year. It's just going through what every new format goes through. Not really. It's been done and was cracked not long after it came out.
Each Blu Ray movie has a unique encryption key which must be obtained in order to crack the copy protection. The decryption key in hardware and software can also be updated to stop the playback of previously cracked disks. It's a lot harder than DVD.0 -

You haven't answered my question as to how your "downloads-only" world will accommodate those who don't have broadband.
All you have said, effectively, is "Ha, Ha. I don't care about anyone who can't get, or can't afford, broadband because I can, so I'll be alright."
Don't try to get on your indignant high horse with me, after coming out with remarks like that - particularly on this of all sites.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Any DVD from Slysoft claims it can circumvent copy protections on DVD and Blu Ray allowing them to be ripped and also as it loads on windows startup can allow region 1 disks to be played and ripped allowing them to be burned as Region 0 (play on anything)0

Its pretty sad that when you can't win the debate or are proved wrong, you go crying to the moderators, anyway removed the offending link.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Did you embolden the "me" because you think highly of yourself then?
Ah dear, im not on here to score points, I was just offering my opinion which still is that I see the future as downloadable content or on demand style purchases.
Marty J's figures are interesting and as a movie buff myself I will certainly not write off blu ray, hell ill even buy the products should they come down in price enough, like i say, it was just my opinion.

Yes, that would be pretty sad, but I didn't report anything to anyone. I don't know why they removed a link because it's illegal in Germany; I guess you'll have to ask them.
And I'm not aware that anyone has proved that Blu Ray is as easy to crack as DVD. Try asking Slysoft if you don't believe me.0
