I only play now if it's a super big one or I am feeling like I am having a bad weekend - that way there is always the chance I may become a millionaire while I am at work lol.
Got to recalculate the debt this week to stay on top of it, but got another dental visit this week as part of the big programme of work I'm having done, and it's another big one. It's pushing me back and I have other things I need to buy, such as the washing machine, but I know it's definately the right thing to do, and I can't wait for my new smile! I have my work booked for the summer, or at least much of it, and I know I have some money coming in to clear a bit more again.
Feeling more and more focused again, and going very MSE for lent in the hope that I will kick start some good habits.Debt £5600 all 0%0 -
Well it's the weekend again and I am slipping back into hard exam mode, so everything is work or study. I got my temporary crown the other day, and I have to say I am very happy with the work so far. I like that my teeth look better but not false, the false ones will be replaced in time and I am smiling more which is making me feel more confident and generally happier. I had a clinical skills session today where I had to role play explaining something to a patient, and the last few have been less than impressive, but this time I felt confident and that came across so I am really pleased about that!
I've also realised that I am quite good at saying no to people who ask me for money, my sister was complaining that her boyfriends benefits stopped the other day and that they had a council tax bill that was going to court and all these other bills and how little money that they had coming in, but rather than feel guilty about my cosmetic and restorative dentistry I listened as a sister should and did not offer to bail them out - again. I think the penny has finally dropped with me that people make their own financial choices and it is not for me to fix that, if they want to improve their situation then they need to make different choices. I'm not !!!!!ing really, just expressing my latest little LBM that their problems are not my responsibility, my debt is my responsibility and after that my own financial future. It's hard to see someone you care about struggle but that is the consequence of their choices.
I'm working a lot again this weekend but happy to say that I am enjoying it. I feel very lucky to have a job that I love so much.
Still cracking on with the DFW mission but on a slower pace at the minute, after all I am in for the long run.Debt £5600 all 0%0 -
Well my gf found me a washing machine on freecycle so should have been great, went to hire a van to move it and they were riddiculously expensive, asked if I could borrow the van from work but the owner is on holiday so that was not available at short notice. In the end hired a StreetVan, thinking that sure by the time I paid my membership, insurance excess and hire for a couple of hours, it was nearly as much as hiring for the night but then next time I need to hire one it will be cheaper and easier. Good plan, in theory, in practice, when I went to the van I hired they were unable to unlock it remotely, very nice about it and offered to do the hire for free on another van not too far away. Got there picked up the van and hit the traffic, badly. After hitting traffic the roads I wanted to take were closed over night. Ended up having to extend the 2 hour hire 2 times up to 6 hour, at which point it would have been cheaper to hire for the night. Also very tired by the end of it all. Still have the old one to remove. Think that from here on in I will just buy new, get it delivered and fitted and old one removed. I still haven't been able to plumb in the new one due to the dodgy pipework from previous occupants.
Still on a positive note double shifts are having a very healthy impact on my wage packet and I am secure for work for the summer. Have also decided that I will intercalate at uni, which although it adds another year doesn't impact too badly as after 4 years the nhs will pay a bursary to cover fees anyway, including the BSc year. Also by intercalating I can work on top of uni for an extra year, which adds the all too important fundage. It also means that it will be 2011 before I start clinical rotations, by which point I will have naturally come towards the end of the terms of my loans etc anyway. This was a particular worry.
otherwise things seem to be plodding on alright. Just looking at what I am booked for, I can pay all my annual bills with my summer wages, which makes term time a lot easier.
Hope everyone else is well.Debt £5600 all 0%0 -
Its just been one of THOSE weekends, so I am just going to write the weekend off, relax with the gf tonight and not allow it to affect the rest of my week.Debt £5600 all 0%0

I've gained some perspective, being debt free isn't the number 1 priority in my life right now. Thats not to say I intend to become financially irrisponsible again but killing myself working too many hours doing double shifts is not healthy, it's not responsible and it's counter productive.Debt £5600 all 0%0

Justruth I hope you are ok? But yes, your health should be number 1 priority, if you kill yourself trying to pay debts, they won't care!Became Mrs Scotland 16.01.16

Good Morning!
I am back! had a horrific couple of months personally hence i have been AWOL, missed my debt repayment last monthso although I haven't added to the balance (which has been a triumph as i'm an emotional spender) i am officially a month behind BUT! I have a cunning plan.....
Good job on the freecycle front that site is a gem!
i will now get back on the straight and narrow!TOTAL: (1.9.2008) £[strike]20,971.00[/strike] (02.12.10)£11,006.07£9,262.93 Paid off (Since LBM)Debt Free Date [strike]2021[/strike] 2015Savings £100 Dec NSD 11/20, Sealed pot challenger 1043:xmassign:0 -
Hope you're all well.
Debt not down, possibly slightly up as I edge towards the end of term. I'm still easing up on myself, no more working crazy hours like that, it's just not healthy and whats the point in making myself sick. I ran up debt, I'm paying it off, sure I'll pay a little more in interest by taking slightly longer to do it but I will have a quality of life!
This year I am going to take a holiday, I'm going to spend more time with people I care about and I am going to be sensible about how much I work rather than running myself down and getting ill. Even if I just pay minimums, one loan will be clear in 2.5 years and the other in 3.5 years. I'll still have overdrafts (estimated £6k by the end of uni) but at 0%.
DTDT, it's all ups and downs, but it's still along the same path. PBP, thanks for the concern, I got an injury from work doing double shifts and getting tired and clumsy. Made me realise that it was a very false economy.Debt £5600 all 0%0 -
Just popped on to see how you're both doing and say hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see you're not beating yourselves up for getting a bit behind - in the grand scheme of things you're doing fab - you will both get there!
Good luck xx0 -
I DON'T HAVE HIV OR HEPATITS!!!!!!!!
I am officially clear after my needle stick injury 6 months ago! I'm not cleared by occupational health for another month due to an error when inputting the information where they put the injury in a month after it actually occurred but either way I'm a lucky !!!!!! and I got away with it!
I do feel like celebrating but with my new found appreciation for my liver don't think it will be too rowdy.
Set myself a new challenge to clear the debt that doesn't involve me over working again, a 2 million can challenge. Perhaps if DTDT is still about you might want to join in? You too mudbath!Debt £5600 all 0%0
