Managed to make yesterday and today NSDs (26th and 27th, I'm still on work time), so I officially reached my target of 5! I need to spend tomorrow to stock up a little, but other than that might even try to fit another one in! Will try to match 5 again in Jan.

  • Officially managed NSD 6 yesterday but really do have to spend tonight, although it is very tempting to try to push it one more day however my oyster needs topping up and I am close to running out of milk, and I am no good to anyone without a brew. Just goes to show that studying and NSDs work well together!

Well the new year started well, a NSD and I got offered another job (which I turned down, I really like my current job) but it was nice to be offered and that remains open if I want more work later on.

See 2010 is defo going to work out for me!

Just spent the evening reading through your diary. Well done on keeping the motivation going even with everything else going on in your life!

I hope that you can continue being so motivate in 2010.

  • Sounds like a fab start to 2010 for you justruth! Im slipping off the wagon slowly, just can't get it back under control moneywise. Things are good in other ways though. Going to give blood this afternoon and finally ask (if I remember!) to get on the bone marrow list.

Glad you enrolled on bone marrow register, I was on for years before I got the call and as I said before, I considered the entire process a privilage to be able to do that for someone else. It's a great feeling.

Feel free to pm me if you want about sliding off the wagon, and some more of your personal issues with money. You might find it useful to do the whole starting your own thread and getting wide ranging advice from lots of people about which way to do everything to reduce costs but I have always been a little too chicken.

Cut yourself a little slack though, the best way to be is to play the long game. If you try too hard and completely cut yourself off from everything you soon loose momentum. Following my recent issues my advice would be to clear the line of credit with the highest APR ie a credit card, but keep the account open and available should you find yourself caught out so you do have something available. I currently try to have at least £1000 available to me, which sounds excessive but everything always seems to happen at once so it's a reasonably safe number. Just remember that this is your sos credit, and the panic of being without will keep you from using it for anything else. This way you avoid more expensive solutions to unexpected problems. As you pay off the next card you can then look at balance transfers etc to reduce the cost of your debt which makes the next stage of debt repayment easier. Just work on one thing at a time, because as you pay off each debt that has the highest APR, the next debt of the same amount is cheaper and easier to repay.

If you got all your debt at 0% (which is roughly my plan for the next 2 years) then you would be clear of it in no time!

One thing at a time, and get into good long term habbits and the whole moneysaving game becomes a lot easier. That said I am losing the race, but the competetive part of me will soon have that sorted out lol.

Just wanted to add to what justruth said. We all have times when we feel like we're taking one step forward and about a million steps back. You WILL get there - hugs to you xx
  • Hey, thanks for the support. I think I just find it hard when everyone seems to be out doing things and I can't afford it, but feel like I'm missing out. Although not really sure where some of them get their money from either. It's just a bit silly really, just need to sort it out! I'm getting better at budgeting for things that I know are coming up (ie car insurance and tax) so I'm not paying out a lump sum each time. I'm trying to pay my barclaycard off as it's the smallest one and I think once I've at least paid one thing off I'll feel a bit more like I'm getting somewhere... only got 3 more months until I've paid my friend off too which is good. I've also registered on a waiting list for a 6 week course of counselling to try and figure some other issues out which may in the long-term stop me spending to feel better. I haven't actually told any of my friends about it as I keep everything to myself so sorry if it's too much info!:o

I've registered and given a sample so now I just wait. I mentioned it to someone last night and it turns out his mum had lukaemia and needed stem cells but didn't get any in time... that gave me a whole new perspective on it.

hope you are all doing ok so far this year :T
