I fell off the wagon

I have just had all the stuff through from the Halifax! I applied for their student account before starting uni as they offer up to £3000 on a 0% overdraft. Currently they have approved £500 and I had to pay in £100 to 'activate' the account. I am going to ask them to increase the limit and offer to close the Barclays account through their account switching service. If I get the full £3000, I can pay off the MBNA card as well. I know this wont actually decrease the debt, but it will make it less expensive for the short term, so I can focus on clearing the car finance.

Ah, and I have had an interest payment of £12.something on my Barclays account, so I am up a bit, but I am working on it! I have a cunning plan!!!!

I consider uni to be my full time job, paying £792 a month, which covers my direct debits. My part time job tends to pay for things like groceries, travel and such like. I get paid weekly from my part time job, and this week I am still on last weeks pay packet. It gets a bit complicated over Christmas, but I am going to try in the new year to make one weeks pay packet cover 2, then the second one each fortnight can make a big chunk of an overpayment on my debt. I figured that I am spending way too much on travel, and while there are certain journeys and weather conditions where public transport is preferable, uni is 30mins walking distance away, the Chaplaincy allows us to go in and make our own free hot drinks in the day, and I can start doing a proper packed lunch (they also do a free lunch on a Thursday, but as I have been having labs on Thursday mornings, I can't eat until the smell is thoroughly cleared from my hands!) My timetable changes after Christmas so I may be able to make more of this free lunch!

You may be a little ahead of me now, but I bet I can beat ya!

Well I get paid again tomorrow and haven't touched last weeks wage packet, and as I've been doing extra in the run up to Christmas it's a good one! Tomorrows should also be up £20 on the usual so thats should cover the last of the presents! I'm not working over Christmas so I will have to make tomorrows last 2 weeks anyway, but since I am getting into the swing of it, I am sure that come the new year I will have learned how to spread it out!

    I'm catching up!!!!!

As of this date, determined is £777.53 ahead of me

Good luck Justruth....your race with DTDT is great!

It sounds like you fell off the wagon & then it fell on you! But you are doing a grand job beat the debt down & I'm sure when I read your thread next December, it will be well into 4 digits!

  • The DTDT a dfw machine!!!! I just have to wait till I get my next installment of student loan before I put the money I have saved towards debt repayment. They are not always brilliant at giving it to you when you really need it, I currently will have about £400 when they do

I'm loving the race so much ... who should I put my money on. Oh yes, I don't have any money either!! Good luck to you both xx
  • I currently have £420 set aside to pay off debt, but I am waiting till my next student loan installment comes in before doing so as it isn't always there straight away when they say it will be.

I have also chased up a couple of the people I lent money to and I have been assured of payment over Christmas, but again I will wait till it is safely in my hand before cooly wiping out some more debt!

You may be ahead now, but I am catching up!
