It'll never happen, but i would love to see Tesco do a Woolworths.
Just hoping that the massive Woolies rush is hurting their pre-Christmas sales, shame it couldn't go on for longer.
Unfortunately Tesco care for noone but themselves. I work for a massive international company with an annual turnover in the multi billions, but even we were held for ransom by Tesco for two months over pricing of products and our products even went off the shelves in the stores. Too big, too powerful.
Their time will come, it wont go on forever. Until then, i'll only buy loss leaders from their stores.0 -

No offence intended and I'm surprised that when I'm trying to describe a scenario which can be quite funny, it should be regarded as non PC. Haggling is a normal practice is many countries and visitors to London often don't give up easily. Staff expect customers to accept prices and get annoyed, as it stops them from getting on with their jobs (or is that offensive too?). I was actually shocked at the staff's attitude to the customers, but trying to find reasons why they might be frustrated0 -

I would have reported the sa to the manager for saying she was going to overprice it and maybe throw it away. On the other hand M & S never used to reduce food so I suppose it is a bonus if you find some.0 -

Wouldn't want to get him into trouble on an 'off day', just before Christmas, besides which I might want to do a spot of haggling myself, now that I know he seems to have the power!
Yes, M & S have been very mean with their reductions up to now, so finding bargains is indeed a bonus. I remember Stuart Rose last December, advising retailers not to give in and discount early, to make the customers pay up. Hmmn...0 -
I can understand the cynicism in this thread - this time of year its all about footfall for the supermarkets, they have their stall laid out they just need to get the shoppers in en masse. Brasher can see how effective the Woolworths announcement has been, albeit in very sad circumstances, and is tapping into the public mood for a bargain. What's missing in these threads are any bargains people have found - those plastic quadbikes can usually be found for under £40 in one of the supermarkets somewhere, usual practice of store it on the top shelf in November for £80. By all means hunt the bargains, but don't be fooled into not having to shop around and check the Ebay price first, that's normally the best indicator of real value.0

i was fooled by the sale in woolies, popped in yesterday, and priced things up, only to discover that the prices on some products were still cheaper to buy in tesco. [not to mention the club card points on top!]
i was also stopped from buying things because once opened xmas morning, if they never worked or something was wrong, I am not sure how one would go about obtaining a refund, with woolies closing down [maybe] a refund or complaint would be impossible.
so walked out with nothing, but people in our local woolies were going mad and emptpying the shelfs like crazy.
reading this site, and using my head I discovered that there is really no such thing as a sale, apart from the last few weeks or january or early feb when prices are really slashed
I have also now stopped using ebay because of the postage costs, sometimes it is cheaper buying new than from ebay now.
the woolies sale would be excellent if we had a clue as to the very last day, then i think maybe it would be worth popping in to have a look. Tesco I think are using the sales now so that in januray they can fill the shelfs up with easter eggs :rotfl:nothing is impossible, just maybe difficult.0 -
