    Good morning all.

We're putting our trees up at the weekend; I don't like the decorations up too early, either.

Well, as I posted last evening, LO is off the ventilator and breathing on her own, so we are full of hope now, although she is still very poorly.

DH has just left after scraping all the ice off the car. It's not quite as hard a frost as yesterday morning but still took some scraping. I'm glad I'm working from home now - I hate mornings like that and don't envy anyone having to defrost their cars before leaving home.

(((Hugs))) to both Lesleys and anyone else who is poorly or anxious - lots of people on here, sadly.

Well, dinner tonight will be bacon, eggs and potato wedges followed by the rest of a jam sponge I made yesterday. We've just had porridge, with pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, goji berries, sultanas and evap milk. Perfect in this weather.

Today I have paperwork, a bit more wrapping up, a quick tidy up round the house and then a trip to the Post Office to buy some stamps for posting cards to Europe. I think the last posting date is tomorrow. Inland it's the 18th for 2nd class and 20th for 1st, so not long now!

I'll be sad to see Woolies go - and, of course, it's horrible for all those who are losing their jobs with barely any vacancies going anywhere nowadays. The jobs section of my local paper is getting thinner by the week. My DH's work is slowing down - it always does before Christmas - but it seems less hopeful that it will pick up again for some time. Even more belt-tightening here but you can only pull it in so far, can't you? I'm so glad I've been doing my Christmas shopping since January! I even have all the presents ready for DGS and DGD's birthdays in January.

Our new Wednesday market is such a success and gets bigger every week with lots of really worthwhile bargains. They have a fantastic fruit and veg stall and I noticed that yesterday there was a fresh fish stall so I shall be making the most of that after Christmas. The whole market has made our village feel a lot friendlier. The main precinct is pedestrianised and the market is spread out in the middle of the two rows of shops so it gives a really bustly feel. Worth going to even if you don't need to buy anything.

Well, I'd better go and get a wiggle on.

Hope everyone has a good day and stays as warm as possible.

  • Morning Everyone:j

I'm an OS newbie. Mind if I join in?

It is wet here today although I think we may be in for snow/sleet later. I am working from home today so will get some bread made and I need to post 2 parcels, 1 to France and a card to Bharain, I hope I havent left it too late.

I was hoping to avoid visiting the shops until Monday but I want to make a big batch of sausage casserole in the slow cooker and I only have 1 onion left and need 3. I could make a small one in the two man sc but I wanted to make a big batch in the big sc so I can freeze some for OH for next week when I am away with work. Also need to try and sort out the dumping ground that is our bedroom - will give it half an hour this morning or I will never get any work done.

Todays lunch is veggie lasagne and wedges leftover from last nights tea for the OH and HM tom & lentil soup with the last of the tomato bread for me. Dinner will be sausage casserole, mash and green beans.

We are off to get our christmas tree tonight before the mad weekend rush. Haven't a clue where the decorations are in the loft!:o OH absoloutely hates going in to the loft for anything so it will be me rummaging around in the dark then.

    Have a good day

    Morning all

Brrrrrrr got the boiler man coming tomorrow. For some inexplicable reason every morning our radiators cool down around 7.40 and then fire up again at 8am. Heating comes on at 6.30am so just as the house is warming up, it flaming cools down again. Hope they can solve the mystery or call in an exorcist, I dunno.

Later start today as have a half day course to go to and don't have to be there until 9.30am. :D

Our tree and decorations are going up this weekend. We used to put everything up after 17th which is my son's birthday but now he has his own house we don't feel that we have to wait ;) He is a quarter of a century this year  doesn't time fly. It still seems like yesterday and I can remember coming out of hospital with him on Christmas Eve. Worse still I can remember having to eat my Christmas dinner in the living room on a soft chair cos my stitches hurt too much to sit at the dining table :D Alright, sorry, TMI.

Good luck to anyone going into Woolies today, I'd put your armour on before you go in if I were you.

Have a good day all. Hugs to all the poorlies and those who are sad. xxxx

    morning all!

not had chance to post since Tuesday morning due to work etc.

Amazingly my wonderful friend Lesley is still hanging in there, it is amazing but she does have an awful lot of people praying for her. She can only manage to whisper the odd word but yesterday when I was kissing her goodbye she managed to say thankyou for coming - what a woman she is. It is heartbreaking, mentally I am saying goodbye each time I see her.
I am going again later today.

(((hugs))) to everyone else who needs one - sorry havent read the thread for a couple of days. I hope Tristan and Mioliere's little one are doing well xxx

    Happy Anniversary to the PennyPinchers!

Got 2 extremely busy days coming up then a 3 day working weekend ahead! but have had a bit of good news. We have been given a 3 piece suite in really good condition:j Mine was on its last legs so its come at just the right time plus I won a tenner on last nights lottery:j

Am going to get my nails done later and going to Aldis for some groceries.
Tomorrow it is my final exam for my Extend teacher training:j cant wait for it to be over. I've not had time to be nervous yet:D I'll be practising my 2 exercise routines later.

    Hope everyone's ok

    take care x

    Morning all :snow_laug

Brr what a horrid frosty morning again. Fell on my bum walking out of the train station this this morning ~ouch~

~hugs~ and warm wishes to all those not feeling so great. Taplady, how is lesley's family holding up at this awful time? Lots of people in my thoughts last night. I was sitting mulling over the daily thread and what sprung out at me was how totally caring and supportive people on here are. It may be a virtual community but goodness me, the warmth and genuine feelings are astounding. I may only have come out of the woodwork in the last few months but that was due to me feeling that I had nothing worthwhile to say. :o

Anyhow, enough of my pensive musings. I was so furious last night. SIL gave me a list of presents to get for her brood. TBH I have been going to try cut down as DH's job may be at risk like so many and was only going to get small things as her oldest is 19 and her youngest is 14 with another 3 in between. She was rather miffed 3 years ago when I said I wan't buying for the adults from now on. DH is from a family of 6 and they all have between 3 and 5 kids each. Most ate grown up now except for SiL's lot so I have been cutting back each year and all the others understand this as they are all feeling the pinch in the last few years. Well apart from SiL who thinks because we have no kids that we are rolling in it...I wish. rant over ;)

Dinner tonight will be an old traditional scottish fav of steamed lorne sausages with onions, mash and cabbage. For pud I think it will be a crumble and custard. I found some sad looking apples in a cupboard. DH must have put them there and I forgot all about them.

I mioght do the shopping tomorrow night instead of at the weekend and that will let me bake and get some batch cooking done for the holidays in case of unexpected guests. I also remembered that I need to get stocking fillers for DH and mother. I have their main presents which they know about but then also need wee surprises, what I haven't a clue though.

    Anyhow, enough ramblings from me.

Have a great day all and warm thoughts and prayers for those that need
  • Morning all :santa2:

Cold and frosty here this morning, but at least it is dry.

Our tree went up on Saturday, and it is lovely, I bought new lights from Focus (60% off), but they are doing their own thing. I keep putting them on 'twinkle', but they seem to change back to static after a few seconds (apart from one set that is twinkling away merrily)

Decided to decorate the hall stairs and landing, so just need to finish a few doors and then it is done, trouble is, it does make other rooms look shabby, so maybe after Christmas they can be done.

Off to Aldi later, will do a mixed grill for dinner, with lovely Staffordshire oatcakes.

Taplady, my thoughts are with you and your friend, I know how hard it is, tomorrow will be 6 years since I lost my Mum, and it is made all the more difficult this close to Christmas

Hugs to anyone going through a tough time x

Good morning, Taking dh to airport shortly, then a few jobs, then coffee with a friend, maybe coffee with another friend and then more jobs later. Rehearsal this evening. DS and I will have the second mystery tubs from the freezer. With mash and veg, as it looks like lamb casserole. Need to run all the machines, WM, DW, BM as well.

Hope you are all coping at this busy time.
