Woolies - closing down sale tomorrow (11/12/08)

  • If the staff have any sense then they will put aside all the good stuff if they are 50% off everything, if they get all the games consoles and electricals then they could make a little bit of extra cash for Christmas.

I do sympathise with the staff, but Woolies hasn't had a good business strategy for the past few years. Even in the sale last week a lot of their 'discounted' prices were higher than you could pay elsewhere.

Asda recently opened an Asda Living store by me, and I thought they may have been interested in taking on Woolies wholesale, I'm sure Walmart have got the cash and Woolmart has something of a ring to it.

Stores shut Xmas eve and the news can be buried!

If you believe the papers then this will happen to other stores, not just Woolworths. Apparently banks are waiting to foreclose and Christmas is the best time, on Christmas Eve all the takings are in the till and the quarterly in advance rents have not yet been paid, nor have the VAT bills, so if the banks get in quickly they get more chance of getting their cash back. Sad but true I think.

A warning to people buying last minute in the Woolworths Sale, check your item works when you get it home, as if you wrap it and then find after Christmas it doesn't work you are very unlikely to be able to return it, and of course there's no guarantee all the manufacturer's will still be afloat either.
  • Just called my local woolies & they haven't been told of any further reductions to the existing sale, they seemed genuine enough.

Probably the announcement is bit late in the day for any further reductions to be actioned by tomorrow morning so I wouldn't be expecting to turn up tomorrow for half price xbox!

And of course this could be another marketing ploy to get people in store which they could keep milking right up until xmas!

Got my first genuine bargain on the way home from work this evening. An England supporters mini fridge (10 litres - holds 10 cans or 2 bottles of wine) complete with a flag, car flag and baseball cap which had originally been £59.99 but now selling for £4.00. This was in the Caernarfon store so not surprisingly they weren't flying off the shelves there but will no doubt sell better over the border. It comes with a car cigarette lighter adaptor so it'll come in handy for picnics on the long, hot summer days when global warming finally kicks in.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us

I heard on the grape vine that poundstretchers have bought some of woolies stock. If this is the case, your bound to find a decent toy in one of there shops and it is guarenteed to be cheaper.
 Wins in 09 = A vodka cocktail kit thing lol, £150 Amazon voucher.

  • Not rushing in again. I guess it's another ploy.
I can't be bothered with the mad rush of rude people.

Also I do feel for the people loosing the jobs. But you can't go around doom and gloom over other people loosing their jobs. thousands are loosing their jobs every week, it's terrible, but I'm still after a bargain.
If you are that upset for them are you going to offer one of them your job? Didn't think so.

And what about the poor employees that are going to lose their jobs just before Christmas ?? Getting a bargain isn't everything !
It is when it's located on the "Quick! Grabbit while you can" forum :money:

<stocks up on toblerone, half price bikes, cheap cameras and pick n mix>
  • Starts tomorrow (Thursday 10 December) according to the BBC.

Bargains to be had, feel bad for the 30,000 staff mind you.
