Currys to go bankrupt this week?

I have to agree.
What do Curry's compete on? Why use them specifically? They are not particularly cheap and the service is generally poor.
A couple of years ago I bought a video camera from them. It went wrong after a couple of days and so I took it back for an exchange. The price had gone up in the meantime and they seriously wanted me to pay the difference before they would exchange it!!!
There is nothing in PC World you can't get cheaper somewhere else (either from an independent or an e-tailer).0 -
City thinks it will be OK if not a bit cheap.

“Shares in DSG International , which sells electrical products, jumped 13.7% after an upgrade to buy from neutral at Nomura.
"DSG is priced to fail, in our view. We believe the probability of this is overrated," the broker said. “0 -
Sorry guys! It's my fault, but I'm not buying my new screen till after Christmas, and that's my final word on the subject!0

Mandy's got the 'lavender list' of companies that can't be allowed to fail.
Not sure if DSG's HQ is in a Labour constituency though - the only criteria for not being allowed to fail.0 -

Let them go under, and open the doors to the competition to take their place and create jobs. Todays economy doesnt need stores like these anymore, and I will be outraged if the government steps in to save them.0 -
hi Manty - whereabouts is this store mate?
Edit: sorry, hadn't read that someone had already answered this.
I went in on the way into work, it's mostly fridges, washing machines and TV's. I went in looking for DVD players but they didn't seem to have any for some reason.
Price-wise, well, I didn't really think they were that good prices. Sorry, can't give any examples as I wasn't looking for TV's and I'm out of touch....
...though I will point out that in typical Currys fashion, non of the TV's were setup properly, no wonder they're struggling....0 -
I thought this was old news, DSG know Currys is the weak link but I don't see them cutting them down before Christmas.
I worked for DSG for 12 years (left last summer). Currys was not the weak link, in fact nothing could be further from the truth. Currys was the most profitable part of the group, PC World made peanuts compared to it and nothing they tried could make Dixons profitable.
I still have many friends within the company and there is no doubt they are worried.
If (and it's a big if) DSG goes down it definately wont be until late January/ early February at the earliest.
The group traditionally pulls in about 70% of its business from mid October until mid January. It wouldn't make any sense to pull the plug on them any earlier.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -

When one is at The Bottom of The Pond...well...theres rocks, pebbles and bits of weed to hide under. There are also scraps floating down from above that were ignored by the bigger fish at the top.0 -
just goes to show how deep this recession is going to be 3 months ago we were making 2.5 million profit a month now on a 4 day week losing .5 million a month we make parts for volvo trucks its bleak i have been through two recessions but this is by far the worst truck buyers cant get credit 2500 work in uk similar in car industry its in free fall we are sole supplier the difference is this is world wide when banks get deposits of 100 pounds and led 1000pounds bound to have trouble0

Well they did consolidate the dixons high street brand with currys, but i doubt they will axe the whole currys arm, most likely if push comes to shove they will just restructure it and the unprotibale stores will take the hit instead.0
