Daphne - have you tried medised... it has more coughey/cold type medicine in it, plus paracetamol.... i've never used it before but i got some this week for Erin as she is full of the cold... it's not expensive either... worth using it overnight even, to get him a good night sleep... it's kinda drowsy making for daytimes.
i got it after i heard Bun was using it for her kids when they were poorlies... Funny it was never something i thought of until now, i was always calpol/neurofen and ashton and parsons powders (when she was a baby)
I think i've converted to medised big style!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Thanks Luc and Maz. I hate to sound like a neurotic parent
Medised is not sold for under 2's anymore, Maz - bit of controversy around it but we have used it when he is really snuffly as it's either that or he can't breathe properly! I don't think the government trust parents
well actually I am SURE they don't, why is it once you give birth the wider world assumes your IQ is halved  sorry for the ran but parents and children it seems are just hated in the UK. We're all just a nuisance
And stupid old me, I was at the GP's yesterday - see I hate to go on about DS... he woke up with a bloodshot eye and I panicked, the doc said he has burst a blood vessel, probably from coughing! So didn't seem concerned, and he seems fine apart from being red and swollen. It is not fair, poor little mite - for his first nursery photo, he has a giant bruise on his head from swinging the living room door - I think it was a game  and now his play is tomorrow and once again he is The Injured Onebut the doctor brushed me off somewhat and I felt rushed out of there - like I say, another stupid parent wasting their time.
I am very tired so please excuse me.
I am not going to bring this thread downhe is playing happily with his friends downstairs no doubt
and the office is all decorated and CHRISTMASSY!!!!!! So I am going to Cheer The Hell Up.

Geting my bossy hat on here - If I was coughing after a month then I'd see a doctor. And make sure you tell him that your DS is coughing at night. If you get flustered when you see your GP then why not write out a list of things.
Just remember that the GP is there to provide a HEALTH service for you and your family.

Hey DD - if you can't come on here and rant then there's something far wrong!!!!
At the risk of sounding like a health visitor, have you tried elevating him at night on extra pillows, or even pillows under his mattress to raise him up a bit.. being up a little will help the breathing...
Although, as i didn't know medised was not for under 2's then my opinion is not necesarily the best....
I know what you mean about the injured one! Erin was always injured in some way or another, and still has legs like she plays right wing for Celtic!!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
DD,
Get down to Dr sweets.
Maz-I wasn't naked, I had a towel on, and yes, I look mardy but I looked a spakka in all the other pics...
I can't WAIT til CP-Hump day today!!!!Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
Before I paint myself as a neglectful parent I should state the reason I haven't taken him is that it did get better, it's only at night, and he has had a perma-cold since starting nursery that everyone tells me is normal because of being there, and will all calm down within a couple of months!
But yes I am going to take him back - what's stopped is me is wondering what they can actually do about it - anti-b's?
I am not usually one to get flustered but when you've got a young baby they do see you as neurotic and inexperienced and basically think you know nothing  that's why I dno't use the health visitor service, they are all so patroninsing...
Also to see a GP, you phone them up - they call you back - interrogate the hell out of you and make suggestions that don't involve actually visiting the surgery - then if you win that battle you finally get an appointment - it's crap. OH phoned last week for the same reason - he has a terrible cough and very sore throat - and he is not one to go to the doctors EVER so I knew he meant it - he phoned three times and still never got an appointment.
Sorry for ruining the happy thread0 -
morning everyone, well I got some sleep last night, all be it on the sofa with the little snuggle bunny. She has colic bless her so after a really rough evening we eventually crashed out at 2 am... she slept with me through till 7.30 when I had to get up.
health visitor is coming this morning. I'm not keen on her to be honest, she looks like some scary school matron and scares me stupidI'm not sure what the role of a health visitor is, other than to weigh the baby and to promote her coffee morning type clubs (which I never go to because I'm not all that fond of people
) I have tidied up this week though so we do look a bit less like students than we did last week.

That is good advice though, thank you - we did this before and it helped a bit so yes, I'll do it again - a rolled up towel under the mattress seems enough of a boost. As he is over 1 he can have a pillow now but it does worry me a bit :eek:0 -
