    9. I went to the ticket office and produced a) the e-ticket, b) a print out of the confirmation e-mail with my reference number, c) my driving licence, d) a copy of the credit card statement, for the card used to purchase the ticket, with my name and address on.

That is what the OP offered to the ticket office....now, tell me again it was reasonable to refuse travel, when the CC was reported lost in New York.

    :rolleyes::rolleyes:

    a) e-ticket is not valid without the card, producing it is worthless
    b) confirmation email is worthless. I could use soemone elses card and print it out.
    c) how on earth would a driving license prove that the person is the cardholder
    d) I have already asked a couple of posts ago if the OP did indeed have a credit card statement - to me it would be a strange thing to carry around.

Having said that I could use somone elses card (example, a friend who I might live with) and a copy of their statement. It doesn't prove anything. The cardholder must travel with the card. Although I guess that I could use someone elses card and travel with it too.

It seems you won't even listen what other people have to say so I will leave it at that and look forward to the OP's next update.

It is not me who won't listen to what others say:rolleyes: it is you who considers your rail industry knowledge superceded any legal knowledge.

However,as you say presumbably one of us will be proved right if the OP takes it to the courts.

I will leave you with one thought,a driving license with photograph, with a name on it matching the e ticket.a cc statement of the card used to pay again with the same name,a passport with matching name, and an email.....if they cannot collectively (or more usually, individually)prove identity what use are they?

Like I just said, you don't listen. Once again: Someone with something with the same name on does not prove they are the card holder with a photo or not.

Like you said, you could use anyones card,so what is the issue? what is the probability of the OP having all those items, with all details matching and not being the ticket holder? Would a reasonable person not reach the conclusion they were the purchaser?

It is you who does not understand the nuances of contract law,and seek to try to wriggle out of answering the pertinent question....what would have been acceptable for the staff to exercise discretion? but you cant answer that, so you are choosing to go around in circles.

... an interesting little thread ... I can confirm the following:

Southern Railway will allow the collection of tickets from a ticket office if the customer can produce identification confirming their details and advise on the jouney that was booked.

So ... had the OP come to my ticket office with the above ... then they would have left happily with their tickets :D

Further ammunition for the OP,in that competitors have reasonable clauses in their terms and conditions to allow for real life situations.

The OP was not trying to collect tickets. Big difference.

... my understanding from reading the original post ... tickets were purchased online ... thats PURCHASED ... a reference number was issued ... this refernce number, under normal circumstances is entered into The fast Track machine along with the credit card used ... and the tickets are issued ... therefore the passenger IS collecting tickets ... if I have missed something then please let me know what and I will VERY VERY happily apologise :D

The OP mentions in the first post that it was an e-ticket - (which can be delivered to his phone). This is what is invalid for travel without the card. However, re-reading it I may be wrong. If you see post #8 in this thread you can see that if the OP was just collecting a ticket it can be printed there and then without a card - which has also happened to me.

Fast Ticket (which is what you are assuming it is) is different from eticket (which I am assuming it is due to the OP calling it an eticket).
