Very calm but firm energy from the handler, it's no good getting exciting as you just confirm the horse's suspicions that there is a horse eating monster on board! I normally load other folks horses, but won't do it if it's against the clock as the horse picks up on the tension! Just practice when you've got all the time in the world and it doesn't really matter whether you succeed or not, any negative vibes and the horse plays up!
I used to put the trailer in the Captain's field with his dinner in it when he was little, he's always been happy to load, plus we're always going somewhere exciting for him to show off :rolleyes:Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

Once you get 'em heading the right way up the ramp - a person either side of the ramp with a lead rope held between them can help to prevent unscheduled reversing....or so we used to find anyway!
Piq - am just loving your diary & Fay's - just so entertaining and a joy to watch how well you're both doing with your DFW'ness. *adopts old lady voice* "You're doing very well dear!". I do hope that things turn out well for you work-wise too. Give Captain a carrot from me - he sounds like such a character and just the sort of horse I always liked the best!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thank you how very kind - Hyacinth Bouquet voice :rotfl:I enjoy writing in the diaries, never sure if I'm in Fay's or mine though  Work is still horrible, I suspect something will happen very soon now, just not sure whether I'll survive or not. Probably not, as I've been too vocal on the rights of the common man
I don't think there'll be another horse like the Captain, character is an understatement  only tonight he managed to throw a full bucket of water across his stable, narrowly missing me, not his intention, I'm sure! I then had to go and fill up the bucket in pitch darkness....then I had to clear away the wet straw, he's such a joy sometimes....Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

Any idea when work will finally calm down?
OH got told yesterday they are losing 20 from his dept - he doesnt think he will be one but thinks that the dept can't stay functioning if they don't actually start pulling in some major projects (he works in development engineering) seriously thinking about relocating in perhaps Inverness as its a bit more boom than bust there for him.
You know Piq - you are very inventive with the Captain love the food in the horse box.
I think possibly that you should use your best Margot voice and I can pretend to be Barbara.
NOT of course that I am comparing your character to Margot from the Goodlife. Just the swishy glamourous bit whilst I will be covered in mud wearing dungarees - sighs wishes secretly she was barbara
The best Hyacenth voice just popped Margot into my head.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Ok tried all that resorted to chiffany bit, lots of lunge lines and an enforcing head collar. Trouble is I don't have my own trailer and I would love to go to the beach with him. Possibly need several pairs of jodphurs!
When I bought him he'd never been in a trailer until I picked him up. Lets say it was interesting! As he his a cob if he digs his toes in, or pulls back we stand no chance and he figured out he could go up as well.

I try to follow the Kelly Marks natural horsemanship way wherever possible, however he is also mainly cob and has opinions.... Take a look at the forum on her site http://ihdg.proboards91.com there is a lot about problem loaders there.
The Captain hates the beach, he knows the sea is out to get him, if you can get him that far after he has pranced around like a Spanish horse trying to get the sand out of his feathers. Then gone into a Mexican stand-off with any dogs who dare to wander into his space - always eventful! When the two of us were younger and I insisted that he was going down to the water's edge, he very kindly gave me the opportunity to test the water first:eek: Have you ever tried running after your horse, who deliberately stays just out of reach, whilst wearing soaked boots and breeches weighed down with wet sand?Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30
