Thanks BOB.....with credit being tight everywhere at the moment I thought that a LOB would be the best bet....perhaps being S/E was scaring them ...who knows.I do have a lot of available credit as well maybe it was that?...It pains me to pay any interest but I think it's the safest bet as I don't know from one week to the next what we'll earn and it's going to be better than 20% ish interest with MBNA.....it will be a few weeks before it's all sorted but no worries as I have until july before 0% runs out.
Today is day off so just boring stuff and shopping .Checked my banking and done scratchcards already.
Hopefully the weekend will be busy as it's Easter.Have a good one everyone.

    hi taxi
often wondered do they raise your credit risk if
    a) you pay it on time
    b) have available credit your not using
IE that they wont get huge interest profits of you because your actually good with the cards??
    hope that make sense!!

Hi Shaun...I think it probably is because I've got a lot of cards with high credit limits and no money outstanding on them.
When I did my experian credit card score it came out as 966 out of 1000....and in the excellent range. The boxes at the bottom state all your plusses in the green box and that had loads of stuff and then theres a red box and that only had one item saying that I had a lot of available credit unused.
I have heard also that because some customers don't make CC companies any money they get rid of them.
At the end of the day credit isn't a given right and I'm ok about that but it does annoy me that when being turned down for credit you are not given the true reason..I am intending to be totally rid of credit forever in the next few years....loans,mortgage and CCs.
I do live within my means now and am just getting rid of all the debt.If the recession hadn't have hit I had all intentions of being rid of the CC debt by July so wasn't planning on applying for anymore cards.
At least the LOB allows me breathing space and I'm just going to throw what I can at it.
So will live as frugally as possible ...and chip away at it...and eventually it'll be gone.

Taxi you're very right, probably the problem was that you had lots of credit available to you. I was in a similar situation and didn't realise it, thought i'd cancelled things and hadn't in reality.

Have a great time here then next weekend Lucielle.
I've also just been reading about the woes of bank of ireland which is the provider of the post office cc....and they have been downgraded...so perhaps there's nothing wrong with me and they have got no money!!!!
This is why I want these firms to be honest when rejecting people.
  • Hi Taxi

When my Virgin CC was running out I opened the Abbey Zero which was/is? 0% for 5 months I think it was. I rang Virgin first and asked if they could offer me anything before I closed it they said no but that I could close it and apply again for the 0% so I closed the Virgin CC and reapplied the month after and got another 18 mths 0% deal.

Maybe it is as you said that the post office are rejecting people and if you applied to Abbey you may be successful with your good credit rating? The you could try Virgin again for the 0%.

Just thought it might be worth telling you.

Thanks..it's worth a try..will check to see if Abbey is still doing the zero card but I think they pulled it a few weeks ago but well worth looking in to.
  • Taxi, Nationwide are also doing 13 months 0%.
