    Morning Hypno!

    Hi Olive!!!

Yep, its back to not spending. I'm trying to order my microwave from Amazon today, but its with those qype vouchers, so still qualifies as not spending - even dfw, since it will cut down on cooking times.

Chev - I need to know what books  :) I'm going through Katherine Kerr's books at the mo, Rhodri is just on the point of a transformation you'd be interested in.

Otherwise its a catchy-up sort of day for me today, and I have no fresh food in the house, so need to go a-buying.

sorry to hijack your thread hypno for a mo. KC I have done the first two Deverry Cycles and am now waiting to start reading the next ones, when I can find them all (my book case is still disorganised from moving). I am also a complete trek head, so just reading The Exiles trilogy at the mo. Then I might try Phillip Pulmans 3 again. But pretty much anything in that genre. I keep finding though that writers I thought weren't writing any more acutally are. Just have other things to buy other than books sadly.....

hijack away, chev - no problem!

work is busy - in fact I can't believe just how busy a place can be between Christmas and New Year (except shops with sales on, of course!) so no let up here.

And a friend has just called to say their sister died suddenly at the weekend - a heart attack, and she is only in her 50s, so a real shock. Another of those things that puts my moaning about life into perspective.

    Onwards and upwards.........

Thanks Chev - I don't read Trek books, I have to say, but glad to hear you're *on* Deverry. Just been re-reading Philip Pullman myself, as I had to dig them out to lend to my mum. I'm addicted to the universes of CJ Cherryh and Julian May myself. Hypno - thank you! You're very forgiving of hijacking, you really are.

But .... dying in your 50s of a heart attack. Good lord. Very sad for the sister herself, and her surviving sister.... Not only does it put our debt busting efforts into perspective, it puts my recent weight gain into perspective. I still go in and out in the right places, so to speak, but my waist is now over 30 inches, and all the healthy eating programmes refer to that as a danger signal for women. And since I'm now 54 .... well, I'm not going to be running, but I *will* be exercising. Scary stuff. Thanks for putting it in, it reminds me that these things aren't just scare stories meant to make us buy slimming products, but real health issues with real consequences.

Have survived the temptation of spending at lunchtime, by bringing in couscous and finishing off the rest of yesterdays (big) bag of minstrels. And my trusty fake cappuccino is to follow.....

I nearly spent money on a sympathy card for my friend, but decided I would write a good old fashioned letter instead......moneysaving and more personal.

MiT - not sure about being debt free this year, but certainly closer to it than we have been for a very very long time.............!

    Hi Hypno

Just using some of my allotted internet time at the library to catch up on your diary (would have been doing something more constructive like checking Egg Money Manager but am currently surrounded by teenagers using the other computers!).

Sorry to hear about your friend's sister. Duchy: sorry to hear about what you are going through at the moment - hope it all gets sorted soon.

Hope you have a good day Hypno and have a very happy New Year!

Hi Piggin! Hope you soon get your computer sorted at home - it is such a bind being reliant on the library!

Duchy - if you are lurking - did you get things sorted with the police?
