I'm OK- a little sadder and wiser.
When I checked online banking on Christmas eve there was a three figure sum shown as an atm withdrawal-timed at 8.59 am that morning.
I didn't get up til 9am when my neighbour (& I thought good friend) arrived. She let herself in (she has a key-as I do for her house). I got ready-picked my purse up from downstairs & we both went shopping together.
Back home I discovered the withdrawal-called the bank who confirmed the entry (and time) was correct. They reckon UK cards can't be cloned with pin so the actual card must have been used and then replaced back in my purse.
The corner shop opposite has an atm-according to the owner my neighbour used the machine between 8.45 and 9-yet when I casually asked her if she'd gone to the shop before coming to mine that day-she said she hadn't !
So my card is now blocked by the bank and what little is left will cost me £3.50 in bus fare to get to the bank. Goodness knows when the new card will arrive.
I won't be able to confirm it definitely was the atm opposite til the morning (but I can't see it was anywhere else).
It seemed the only explanation is my neighbour came in earlier -used my card & then replaced it before I got up !!!! The shop has CCTV (the owner is awre the police will wnt to see it :( )so it's going to be easy enough to prove especially as the bank tell me my only chance of getting them to even consider refunding the money is to go to the police -especially as she denied going in there at that time.
Horrible, horrible situation-she's away now til Monday -which is probably as well.
I really want it to be some bizzare bank error-but it isn't looking good :(

oh no sweetheart that is awful. big hugs for you. all i can say is said friend must've been in severe desperate straits to resort to that measure. Can you sit her down and say in a very friendly way that you know how it feels to be in desperate financial straits and that is there anything that she wants to tell you? that she won't loose your friendship but will get your support to work her way out of it and see if she will admit to what she has done. Such a sad situation. SO chuffed that DS is pleased with his gifts. Big hugs honey. xxx
