Afternoon Hypno and all...you still ironing?...I did my 1st scratchcard today and got 10p...does double scratchcard mean that you can do it twice or that it would be double prize?..sorry to sound stupid.
Just wondering if I'm taking MSE too far..DD gave my DH a great big box of guylian(sp) chocs and they were wrapped in gorgeous paper and she wanted her dad to open them.He did this carefully and I'm thinking of reusing the wrapping paper to wrap my boys presents ....is that too scroogish?

double means you can do it twice - press F5 on your keyboard after scratching and it will refresh the page - if it is a double day, you will get a new card, otherwise you get a "sorry, you've already played today" message.

    I do F5 everyday.....just in case :D

surfbabe - busy as always! Hope you have a good evening - red cabbage sounds divine!

We are having pizza, and a mozarella and tomato salad.

I am thinking more and more about my wish to move house.....There is no reason to think that we will not be debt almost debt free this time next year, and with another year or two of throwing the same amount of money to the mortgage or into savings, we should have a reasonable deposit/amount of equity. At the same time, our salaries, although not increasing at the same rate as they would normally do, should increase steadily, at least showing us what our "real" earnings potential is, given that by that time we will both (hopefully) be settled in our jobs.

Of course there is more news of a drop in house prices, which should work to our favour - a 30% drop in ours, still leaves us without the horror of negative equity, so we have reasonable scope there. And of course 30% that we would lose on ours is much less than the value of 30% of any new house we buy, because the new house will be more expensive. It does, however, mean we have to save the deposit rather than rely on equity in the house, but hopefully it should work to our advantage.

So, I need to be debt free, have the house in a very saleable condition, and have as much in savings as possible, before the market starts to pick up again.

Now of course, things could turn round very quickly, which won't do me too many favours, although obviously it would increase the equity I have in my existing house, but they could take a couple of years languishing before they start to turn around. Hopefully (for me) that means that I am in with a good chance of being in the right position at that time - my house is "family house" size and not in the scarily high price bracket so should always be pretty saleable if the minor work is done that is needed (new windows, updated cloakroom suite, lick of paint etc) so my challenge for 2009 is to get that work done, on a budget to freshen the place up a bit.

Forgive me my self indulgence for a mo on this, but as most of you will know it really is the driving force behind me becoming debt free......and I am hoping to make the most of the recession (bathroom suites going cheap etc as well as big fancy houses on the best road in town dropping dramatically in price.........and to get something very positive out of this otherwise gloomy economic environment we are living and working in.

That way, I can think of my bonus as not having gone towards my debt, but having increased my equity in my house, thereby putting me one step closer to dream house.

That sounds like an absolutely fantastic plan Hypno and I totally agree with the way you are thinking. It's always wise to have a aim and it isn't being indulgent at all..without motivation where would we be?
