But do your in-laws know that you are still paying off your disaster-house?
(at least your debt was acquired on embarrassing spends) Do they realise the extent of your debt? And are they supportive.

    That's enough nosiness oo:naughty:

I must also renew my car insurance - couldn't get it any cheaper through quidco etc, so just doing a straightforward renewal.....feels odd after the last couple of years of cashback!

    Just off to do scratchcards.....

This is probably because they see your name pop up and automatically give you the very best quote they can cos they know you are so money savey :rotfl: .

Well done on the 3 weeks without chocolate, do you still crave it or was it more of a pyscholigical addiction?

I have been inspired by you and Buffythedebtslayer to look at running 10k in 10weeks on the cancer research website. We shall see. I have been going swimming twice a week but that doesn't seem to be helping with the weight loss, .

    take care

really? I didn't know they didn't know - wow, that must be hard at times

It is hard, especially when the numbers were sooo big, and the difference in the household budget so great. People think that because we work so hard, we must be loaded. I have to hear other people saying how skint they are, or how well xxx is doing because they manage on one wage, or whatever, and I just want to scream "you haven't got a bloody clue, have you!". I even had one person once say "well, I bet YOU never get to the end of the month and find no money in your account"

That's why I spend so much time on here - no secrets, lots of understanding and support, and no one telling me I should be spending more on Christmas presents!

Chev, I am sure you will be fine tackling 10k - just take it steady, and enjoy it!! As for chocolate....its not so bad being without it, but I wouldn't mind the occasional taste!!

    Shaun....happy nearly birthday!

Anyway, today is Friday - the end of the week :j and it is Comic relief day, so hopefully a laugh or two along the way.

Off to do scratchcards and banking - have a good day, everyone xx

    Hi Hypno,

I always read your threads with interest, and I am aways in awe at your dedication to running....:T... wish I had the same, but too old and not dedicated enough. But I had to comment on your post saying that no one knows of your money problems except the people on here. Well that is the same for us. Everyone assumes that because we both work hard, and that there is now just the two of us, that we are ' Rolling in it '. By rights, yes we should be, but we havn't told a soul, and if we give the impression that we are 'Rolling in it', then that means to me, that I am managing my money even better than I thought. ;) I guess some people are happy letting others know of their financial probs, but not me.

Thank goodness for this site, as you say, no secrets and plenty of support. Well done to us all.:T:T:T

It is really hard keeping things to yourself isn't it! I did tell one friend, but she can't comprehend it, so without wanting to, comes along as patronising or too sympathetic, if that makes sense. I don't need that!!!

When I started this new job, actually, I did raise the issue with two of my immediate seniors - I had to really because I was taking holiday from my main job in order to teach in my second job......and questions were asked. It was actually a bit of a relief having done so, but we don't talk about it at all - they just "know", which is fine by me.

The in-laws would be worried, upset, etc and I wouldn't want to put them through that. My mum knows I am in debt to an extent and I think she is "disappointed" in me........

So, all in all, it is easier in some ways just to get on with it, although at least now if it slips out, the figures are not so scary! When the debt was over £100k it was really really hard!

This site has been a lifesaver for me.

We are the 'Grown ups', and we have children who are married, and we have grandchildren too, so for our family to know that we are in this situation we be totally embarrassing to say the least. We have always told our lot not to get into debt, and if only they knew, its because of our situation that we didn't want this for them. How did we get here?......well university fees for kids, weddings, holidays for grandchildren, ill health then forcing us to take less paid jobs, need I go on.

Anyway, at least we can let off steam......have a good day, off to work now.

PS. Parents will always be proud of their children, especially in your case, where you have knuckled down and are paying your debts off.
