pigpen - I doubt very much if it is anything sinister. One of the topics in the GCSE is writing about self, leisure activities etc and I think it is in the oral as well. I expect the teacher was just trying to put a twist on it to motivate the pupils. I've done a similar thing myself, as I asked mine to prepare a profile to put on a social networking page - I have to stress here that the page in question was put together by DS1, on Publisher, and it isn't in any way live! It looks quite real though, as we copied bits from a real French networking site. It is possible that I might have had comments from parents, but didn't. Recording is something they will need to practise for the oral as well.

I don't think the intention is for it to be sinister but it is highly inappropriate for children of 14 and 15 to 'sell themselves' (teachers words not mine!) in a dating ad.. why couldn't they use the social networking scenario? or the CV? or almost any other scenario?

Another class used the concept of speed dating to encourage information sharing as part of a revision class.. fabulous and effective.. but this is just.. for want of a better word.. seedy!

Why would anyone want to encourage children of this age to see themselves and portray themselves as being 'worthless'?

This is the FULL dating ad.. age, height, hobbies what they are looking for in a potential partner etc.. the works.

We already have just about the highest rate of teenage pregnancy and this is a staunchly catholic school and I wouldn't want to do it at my ripe old geriatric age.

We discussed a camping trip when I did my froggy oral!.. now they 'sell themselves' ;)

  • Just spent fifteen minutes matching up little boy's socks that had been scattered all over the dining room floor. Little bear 'helped' so not sure what I'll find where now.

juliejim hope you've had a nice birthday so far and have a nice evening x
OJK at least it was value
Pigpen, I remember a similar thing being used in a 'social skills' class when trying to encourage people to 'sell themselves' but agree a personal statement for a CV would be more appropriate, especially when considering what she wants them to complete, ours it was just the personal statement.

Thanks for all your support, after I clicked send I did wonder why I'd posted it here, but I know why, because you're all wonderful. I have decided that unless she gets much much worse and is very ill/unhappy/distressed definately doing nothing before Christmas, just doesn't seem right, I can cope as things are pretty well, even if this morning before the school run it was a bit of a nightmare. Pollybear, my vets way too honest to let me waste time or money on anything that would prolong suffering, they are straight which is why I respect them and use them a lot, she's been on supplements since we brought her back when we got her back from the rescue but bought elsewhere on vets recommendation as it's cheaper (that's how honest they are, they run a charity for stray dogs and mainly do vaccination/neutering but she has seen Megan several times for me) cost has never been an issue, Megan has her fund which we started when they wanted £100 a month almost to insure her, so we put the money away incase it was needed. It doubles up as a 'saving incase we need to move' pot.

Bit of retail therapy today, realised one of the parcels delivered Sunday was my new skirt and suit jacket (they match) trying them on was VERY strange, I haven't worn a skirt suit, any suit, for at least 10 years. Going to wear it for my important lunch on Friday :D Also been and bought a new laptop and the desk I finally decided on (which will probably take DP forever to build)

Speaking of move, we've been offered a house through a social landlord but it looks tiny, seriously tiny, but it's a new build. I've spoken to the housing woman and she's said to look at it once they are completed (not finished yet and no similar show home up here) anyway, have done the form, as I said to DP it's also a safety net, go and see it, it's then ours if we want it or can turn it down.
One day I might be more organised...........

lil-me I wasn't saying people wouldn't be willing to spend a lot on treatment for their pets, just that sometimes it might not be possible due to financial circumstances. I can afford it now, that could change.

    Happy Birthday Mudbath and Juliejim.

Lil me - hugs for you, never an easy decision to make.
ZSL - good to see you posting, hope you are recovering ok.

A n W's mum (and anyone else with Thomas fans) some bargains on the Tomy site http://www.tomy.co.uk/products/toys-and-games/brands/thomas-friends/thomasfunzone/thomas-funzone-special-offers/ plus there is a 10% off code on hot uk deals. I am sat here telling myself that DS2 does not need anything else, but at the moment he only has 3 presents.

Anyway just back from work, was ill yesterday and busy all weekend so the house is very rough. Sparkly though - they have coated everything with glitter and I haven't hoovered yet....

Unfortunately I cant, I have to go to work in half an hour, and the kids are running wild. Might do that when I get home though. I'm just feeling a bit down in the dumps today.

Better go and start getting ready.
